Job DescriptionDescription: The Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) is responsible for the day-to-day operations, regulatory compliance, and clinical oversight of Christ Health Center pharmacy. The PIC ensures safe, effective, and compliant pharmacy services, including the dispensing of both 340B and non-340B prescriptions, while supporting the mission of the health center to provide high-quality, affordable care to underserved populations. The PIC directly supervises pharmacy technicians and collaborates closely with the Pharmacy Director, providers, and health center leadership. The PIC establishes standards of quality, productivity and performance in accordance with Christ Health policies and procedures and requirements of State and Federal regulatory agencies. Supervisory Responsibilities · Pharmacist · Pharmacy Technician Requirements: Regulatory and Compliance • Serve as the Pharmacist in Charge of record with the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy., • Implement and maintains policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations for both clinical and in-house pharmacy services., • Prepare for and participate in audits, inspections, and site visits (e.g., Board of Pharmacy, DEA) and assist in corrective action plans implementation, • Ensure compliance with Alabama Board of Pharmacy requirements and DEA controlled substance rules (CSOS, perpetual inventory, reconciliations, loss/theft reporting)., • Maintain permits, licenses, protocols, and documentation., • Plan for both short and long-range goals of the department in concert with the whole organizational plan of the health center. Daily Operations & Workflow Excellence • Manage and continually improve dispensing workflows from intake to counseling to meet accuracy and turnaround targets., • Oversee daily pharmacy operations, including workflow, staffing, inventory management, and prescription processing., • Ensure accurate dispensing of both 340B-eligible and non-340B prescriptions, • Maintain inventory controls: ordering, cycle counts, shrink management, returns/recalls, outdates, temperature logs., • Oversee verification accuracy, DUR interventions, allergy checks, and high-alert medication safeguards., • Support patient counseling and health literacy with plain-language labels and adherence tools., • Provide direct patient care services, including medication counseling, therapy management, and medication adherence support., • Collaborate with providers and care teams to optimize medication therapy for Christ Health patients., • Support population health initiatives, chronic disease management, and preventive care efforts as applicable. Leadership and Culture • Assist in hiring of pharmacy staff., • Train, mentor, and evaluate staff pharmacists and technicians; uphold competency validation and SOP adherence., • Directly supervise pharmacist and pharmacy technicians, including scheduling, training, performance management, and competency validation., • Assist in salary changes, promotions, transfers, discipline and discharge and administer all other personnel actions, • Recognize and address performance issues; drive engagement and retention, • Ensure technicians are properly licensed/registered and working within their scope of practice., • Foster a collaborative, patient-centered, and compliant pharmacy team culture., • Promote a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the pharmacy team., • Stay updated with the latest clinical guidelines, drug information, and pharmacy practices., • Delegate authority, as appropriate, to pharmacy staff for them to direct the work of others., • Keep Pharmacy Director informed of the department’s progress and problems and any significant factors affecting assigned responsibilities. Administrative & Leadership Responsibilities • Support the Pharmacy Director in implementing strategic initiatives and operational improvements., • Assist with budgeting, cost control, and operational metrics as requested., • Participate in meetings and quality improvement activities related to pharmacy services as needed., • Oversee the daily operations of the in-house pharmacy, ensuring efficient and accurate dispensing of medications., • Serve as staff pharmacist following job description of Pharmacist, • Precept PGY1 Community Pharmacy Practice Resident and Pharmacy students, as needed., • Supports Christ Health Quality Improvement efforts designed to improve patient outcomes., • Each employee of Christ Health Center is vital to providing overall quality care to our patients and may be included in the patient care team and daily huddle when deemed necessary by the Core Care Team. Qualification, Education, Experience • Bachelor’s or Doctorate in Pharmacy degree from an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy required, • Current, active, and unrestricted pharmacist license in the state of Alabama required, • Preferred minimum of 2 years of pharmacy practice experience, with a management or leadership role, • Experience in retail (independent) pharmacy settings, preferably in an FQHC Legal & Regulatory Requirements • Must be a United States Citizen or legally authorized to work in the United States, • Uphold HIPAA regulations
