Job Description Job Description: Tool and Die Technician Classification: Hourly (Non-Exempt) Location: Fresno, CA Reports to: Manuel Marcial Effective: March 2026 Summary/Objective: The High Bar Brands (HBB) Fresno’s Tool and Die Technician is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and supporting production tooling used in manufacturing operations. This role focuses on restoring tooling to proper working conditions, identifying wear or failure modes, and performing precision maintenance activities that ensure consistent product quality and reliable press operation. This position promotes a culture of continuous improvement and also works closely with engineering, maintenance, and production teams to diagnose tooling issues, coordinate repairs, and support preventative maintenance strategies that extend tooling life and improve operational efficiency. Essential Functions: Tooling Maintenance & Repair • Disassemble, clean, inspect, repair, and reassemble tooling assemblies while maintaining proper fitment, alignment, clearances, and functional geometry., • Perform precision fitting including grinding, honing, transfers, and component modification as necessary to restore tooling performance., • Verify repaired tooling meets functional and dimensional requirements prior to returning it to production., • Diagnose tooling failures including wear, fatigue, misalignment, and component damage., • Repair or replace worn components such as punches, dies, springs, retainers, tooling components, and fasteners., • Perform and track preventative and corrective maintenance on production dies, fixtures, and related tooling. Equipment Operation: Safely operate toolroom and production equipment used in tooling maintenance and repair, including but not limited to: • Surface grinder, • Manual mill and lathe, • Drill press, • Welding equipment, • Hand tools and precision measuring instruments, • Forklift, • Chain hoists or other industrial lifting devices, • Production presses including 300-ton, 110-ton, and 80-ton presses for tooling setup or testing Reporting and Documentation: • Support preventative maintenance schedules for dies and tooling systems., • Maintain maintenance records, repair logs, and tooling documentation., • Assist in developing or improving tooling inspection and maintenance procedures. Support and Compliance: • Work with operators, engineering, and maintenance personnel to troubleshoot tooling issues affecting production or part quality., • Communicate tooling condition, repair requirements, and operational limitations to production and engineering teams., • Coordinate with engineering or maintenance to obtain replacement components through in-house machining, external vendors, or repair services when required., • Identify recurring wear patterns or failure mechanisms and communicate opportunities to improve tooling life, reliability, and performance., • Assist other departments as required., • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and work instructions., • Report unsafe conditions and incidents promptly. Health and Safety: • Work in accordance with the Cal OSHA regulations., • Wear all required PPE as prescribed., • Follow all Company Health and Safety policies and procedures., • Conduct duties with attention to personal and coworker safety., • Perform other responsibilities as directed by the Director of Operations. Required Skills and Qualifications: • Experience performing maintenance and repair of production tooling in a manufacturing environment., • Working knowledge of machining, grinding, fitting, and precision measurement., • Ability to identify tooling wear patterns and mechanical failures., • Proficiency using precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, indicators, and height gauges., • Understanding of dimensional tolerances and functional fits., • Intermediate troubleshooting ability related to tooling failures, wear mechanisms, and production issues., • Ability to safely operate common toolroom equipment and machinery., • Ability to communicate tooling condition and repair needs with production and engineering personnel., • Ability to interpret and follow maintenance procedures, mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and technical documentation., • Ability to safely operate lifting devices and material handling equipment used in tooling maintenance. Preferred Education and Qualifications: • Minimum 5 years in a Tool and Die role within a manufacturing environment., • College degree desirable but not required, • Experience maintaining stamping dies, forming dies, or similar production tooling., • Experience welding or rebuilding tool steel components., • Familiarity with manufacturing carbon or stainless-steel components from sheet or rolled materials., • Familiarity with preventative maintenance systems such as MaintainX or similar platforms., • Familiarity with CAD or engineering drafting systems including SolidWorks., • Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)., • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications and technical documentation practices., • Experience with ERP systems such as Acumatica., • Prior leadership, supervisory, or team coordination experience., • Experience with precision manufacturing processes such as jig grinding or EDM., • Familiarity with tool steel heat treatment considerations., • Familiarity with hardness testing methods including HRC testing., • Familiarity with rapid prototyping or additive manufacturing used for tooling support.
