Job Description YOU CAN ONLY APPLY FOR POSITION AT The Family Counselor at the Kane County Regional Office of Education (ROE) ensures effective counseling services for students and families in ROE Student Services programs. The primary focus of the position is to ensure at-risk students and their famiies receive or are referred to school or community-based counseling, mental health and similar services that will assist them in successfully navigating both school and the community. Performance Responsibilities To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Support all ROE efforts in the application, maintenance, execution and reporting of the Regional Safe Schools grant and Alternative Learning Opportunities Program approval as well as aid in the development of protocols for the Truants Alternative and Optional Education Program grant to ensure that requirements of the grant are met., 2. Meet with school representatives, students and parents regarding academic, behavioral, social emotional and mental health issues and solicit parent/family input and planning assistance for parent/family education offerings, student success plans, student school engagement and student/family resources., 3. Provide mental health services assessments for eligible Truants Alternative and Optional Education Program (TAOEP) clients., 4. Provide professional learning opportunities for schools, court services, and other community groups., 5. Conduct school conferences and attend meetings regarding school-related issues., 6. Provide options for academics, mental health, and community-based services including prosocial activities., 7. Support individual service plans for all students on active caseload in alternative programs., 8. Make referrals to community agencies and programs or other ROE personnel for more in-depth assistance., 9. Meet with community leaders who support youth for networking and referral services., 10. Collaborate and conduct home visits as needed to support home-school connections, address attendance, grades and/or behavior concerns and provide other family support.?, 11. Under identified parameters and direction, enter relevant data into databases and creates reports needed for internal and external review., 12. Work collaboratively with colleagues and other departments within the ROE in the execution of office functions, programming and work., 13. Participate in relevant professional learning opportunities sufficient to ensure professional growth in meeting the needs of the position., 14. Exhibit an excellent attendance record., 15. Maintain a professional and welcoming environment conducive to supporting those the ROE serves and staff collaboration., 16. Any and all responsibilities assigned by the Student Services Supervisor, Chief of Executive Services or a member of the Regional Superintendent’s Cabinet. YOU CAN ONLY APPLY FOR POSITION AT Qualifications Education - A master’s degree in counseling, social work or a related field is required. Experience - Two years of experience in working with at-risk students or teaching experience is preferred. Licensure - A valid Professional Educator License endorsed as a School Counselor, School Social Worker or related endorsement is preferred; Licensed or Licensed Clinical Social Worker preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities The following knowledge, skills and abilities are applicable to this position: 1. Knowledge of state laws, protocol and professional standards regarding counseling, referrals and similar services for students and families., 2. Ability to create, maintain and transmit reports., 3. Demonstrated desire and ability to work positively with the population that this position serves., 4. Working knowledge and skills in computer and database systems, including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint or other similar programs; proficiency in Google applications is preferred., 5. Ability to work independently., 6. Strong organizational skills., 7. Ability to receive constructive feedback, self-reflect and modify practice as needed., 8. Ability to maintain confidentiality., 9. Valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle and current automobile insurance. Terms of Employment • Full-time, ten (10) month year., • Work hours, scheduling and assignments are at the discretion of the Chief of Executive Services or designee and per ROE policy., • This position is primarily field-based with routine work assignments at the Kane County ROE., • Continuous travel within the Kane County educational service region is a requirement of this position. Salary Range $45,500 - $55,500 Benefits - Note: this is a grant-funded position. A reduction in salary and workdays may occur if, in the opinion of the Regional Superintendent, sufficient funding is not available.
