Job DescriptionJob Title: General Production Worker Job Description This role offers hands-on experience across multiple metal fabrication departments, including paint line, laser cutting, deburring and grinding, and assembly. You spend roughly half of your day on the paint line and the other half supporting general fabrication tasks, working with steel parts, hand tools, and power tools. The position is physical, fast-paced, and ideal for individuals who enjoy learning new skills, working as part of a team, and supporting production wherever the plant needs them. Responsibilities • Rotate between the paint line and other general fabrication tasks throughout the shift based on production needs., • Handle steel sheets from the laser cutting machine, transport them to the work station, and safely remove cut pieces using hand tools., • Perform visual inspections on laser-cut parts, identify obvious defects, and stack finished pieces in totes for the next stage of production., • Use deburring tools and polishers to smooth edges on laser-cut parts and remove remaining tabs or sharp areas., • Grind and polish welds to ensure surfaces are flat, smooth, and ready for painting., • Work on the paint line, hanging parts on the conveyor, and ensuring pieces are properly positioned for paint application., • Prepare parts for painting by taping off designated sections, filling holes, and performing any required surface preparation., • Perform straightforward mechanical assembly using hand and power tools to put components together according to instructions., • Follow safety procedures and use tools and equipment correctly to maintain a safe working environment., • Stay flexible and willing to move between departments and tasks as production priorities change., • Work collaboratively with team members, communicate effectively, and support others to meet daily production goals., • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper handling and storage of tools and materials.Essential Skills, • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds safely and repeatedly throughout the shift., • At least 6 months of experience in a warehouse or manufacturing environment., • Willingness to learn new tasks and adapt to different roles across the plant., • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and support others as needed., • Comfort working in a physical, hands-on production role involving standing, lifting, and repetitive motions., • Basic experience with general production, general labor, or assembly work., • Ability to follow instructions, maintain attention to detail, and complete tasks with minimal rework., • Reliability and consistent attendance to support production schedules.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Metal fabrication experience, including working with steel parts or fabricated components., • Experience operating machines in a manufacturing environment, such as laser cutters, press brakes, or other fabrication equipment., • Prior experience with hand tools and power tools used for assembly, grinding, or polishing., • Interest in learning fabrication skills such as welding, press brake operation, or CNC-related tasks., • Demonstrated flexibility to move between departments and support different stages of the production process., • Candidates with prior fabrication experience may be considered for higher compensation.Why Work Here? Work Environment The facility operates as a metal fabrication plant with a typical manufacturing floor layout. The building is not temperature controlled, so it can become warm during the hot summer months, especially in the paint line area, while the rest of the plant remains generally mild. The environment includes standard manufacturing noise from machines, though it is not excessively loud. The nature of metal fabrication means the area can be somewhat dirty, but overall conditions are consistent with an average industrial production setting. You use hand tools, power tools, deburring and polishing equipment, and work around laser cutting and paint line machinery. The role is physically demanding, involving standing for long periods, lifting up to 40 pounds, and performing repetitive tasks. Attire should be appropriate for a metal fabrication environment, prioritizing safety, durability, and comfort. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Batavia, IL.
