Job Description Athletic Director Summary of Primary Purpose: The strategic leader of the school's athletic programs, shaping a culture of excellence that uses sports as a powerful platform for discipleship and glorifying the Lord Jesus Christ. Recognizing athletics as a vital training ground for life lessons, the Athletic Director casts vision and provides direction that integrates spiritual growth, character development, and competitive success. This role involves cultivating strong, trust-based relationships with coaches, student-athletes, parents, donors, colleagues, and the broader community. The ideal candidate will have a visible and growing relationship with Jesus Christ, serving as a spiritual leader and ambassador for the school's mission through all athletic endeavors. Limited travel is required. Scope of role: • Budget Management: Oversee and manage the athletic department budget, ensuring responsible allocation of resources across all sports programs, including equipment, uniforms, and facility use., • Staffing and Personnel: Hire, support, and oversee the full scope of the athletic department for all grade levels, including direct supervision of the coaching staff, associate athletic director, assistant athletic director, and athletic administrative assistant., • Facilities Oversight: Ensure all practice and competition facilities are safe, secure, and well-maintained, upholding high standards for student-athlete safety and program excellence., • Foster Spiritual Growth: Cultivate a Christ-centered environment that encourages the spiritual and emotional growth of both students and staff through discipleship and intentional mentorship., • Event Coordination: Plan, organize, and promote athletic events, including games, competitions, and fundraising initiatives, to ensure excellence and foster community engagement., • Coach Supervision & Evaluation: Provide leadership and oversight for all coaching staff. Regularly evaluate both current and prospective coaches to ensure alignment with the new school’s high standards of discipleship, relational integrity, and athletic performance., • Implement Best Practices: Stay informed on current trends and best practices in sports management and proactively integrate effective strategies to enhance program performance., • Staffing Decisions: Recommend hiring and dismissing coaching staff as needed, ensuring all personnel support the mission and values of the new school., • Compliance Oversight: Ensure all coaching staff meet and maintain eligibility and certification requirements set by the Illinois High School Association (IHSA)., • Program Assessment: Track and report on team progress by analyzing past performance, recent outcomes, and identifying key areas for improvement and development., • Community Engagement: Serve as a responsive point of contact for parents and the broader new school community, listening to concerns and acting promptly in the best interest of the school., • Communication: Maintain consistent and effective communication with families and the school community using the new school’s app, social media, and other appropriate channels., • Discipline Collaboration: Partner with school leadership to uphold student discipline in alignment with the student handbook, athletic code of conduct, and biblical principles., • Facility Management: Oversee the scheduling and proper use of school athletic facilities during both school and non-school hours, ensuring availability, safety, and adequate supervision., • Injury Protocol: Oversee all protocols and procedures associated with injuries, returning to school, and returning to play (i.e., concussion protocols), • This role is considered a ministry position rooted and grounded in the principles of Jesus Christ, • Incumbent will be called upon to pray for and with students, families, and colleagues, • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to mentor and develop coaches, student-athletes, and leaders, • Collaborative team player who balances spiritual development, academic expectations, and athletic commitments within a Christian school context, • Strong communication skills—both verbal and written—with an emphasis on active listening, • Ability to receive and respond to feedback, including from parents, with grace and professionalism, • Strong skills in budgeting, analysis, and strategic planning, • Passionate about athletics and modeling true sportsmanship, • Proven leadership and organizational strength, • Demonstrates high integrity, honesty, and ethical behavior in all interactions, • Visionary leader who inspires both students and coaches, • Provides constructive feedback and holds coaching staff accountable, • Strong decision-making and problem-solving capabilities, • Builds trust, influence, and positive relationships across all levels of the school community, • Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management or related field.
