Job Description Job Title: Trailer Mechanic Pay up to 42 per hour Job Description This role focuses on performing comprehensive preventative maintenance and repair on trailers, ensuring they operate safely and efficiently. You inspect and service key components such as hubs, tires, brakes, suspensions, electrical systems, and structural elements, using your mechanical, carpentry, and welding skills. You bring your own hand tools to perform repairs while major shop equipment and large tools are provided, allowing you to complete a wide range of maintenance and repair tasks to a high standard. Responsibilities • Perform thorough preventative maintenance on trailers, including checking and maintaining proper oil levels in hub caps, verifying correct air pressure in tires, and greasing all fittings., • Carry out minor light repairs and replacements on trailers, ensuring all exterior and interior lighting functions correctly., • Complete full brake jobs, including S-cam bushing replacements, brake chamber replacements, and air valve replacements in accordance with air brake maintenance standards., • Apply a solid understanding of spring and air ride suspensions to perform proper alignment procedures and remove and replace torque arms, equalizers, and springs., • Service and repair axle wheel end assemblies, including proper installation of hub and drum assemblies, bearings, seals, and races, following correct torque procedures for axle nut installation., • Troubleshoot and repair all aspects of trailer electrical wiring systems, including all lights, 7-way receptacles, interior lighting, and switches., • Perform minor body repairs and maintenance, including removal and replacement of body side panels and posts, swing and roll-door panels, and roof and floor sections., • Carry out minor undercarriage maintenance and repairs, such as removal and replacement of crossmembers, ICC bumpers, spring hangers, dolly legs, and bracing., • Weld steel components from various positions to support structural repairs and modifications as needed., • Use personal hand tools and equipment to perform all assigned tasks, while properly operating major shop equipment and large shop tools provided on-site., • Follow established safety procedures and standard operating procedures (SOPs) at all times, maintaining a safe and organized work area., • Collaborate with other technicians in the shop, communicating effectively to coordinate work and support a team-oriented environment., • Accurately document work performed on trailers to ensure maintenance records are complete and up to date. Essential Skills • Demonstrated mechanical skills with the ability to perform comprehensive trailer maintenance and repair., • Carpentry skills sufficient to carry out minor body repairs, including panels, doors, roofs, and floor sections., • Ability to perform complete air brake maintenance, including full brake jobs, S-cam bushing replacements, brake chamber replacements, and air valve replacements., • Basic understanding of spring and air ride suspensions and proper alignment procedures, including the removal and replacement of torque arms, equalizers, and springs., • Complete knowledge of axle wheel end assemblies, including proper installation of hub and drum assemblies, bearings, seals, and races, and correct torque procedures for axle nut installation., • Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing trailer electrical wiring systems, including lights, 7-way receptacles, interior lighting, and switches., • Ability to perform minor undercarriage maintenance and repairs on components such as crossmembers, ICC bumpers, spring hangers, dolly legs, and bracing., • Ability to weld steel components from various positions in a shop environment., • Ownership of appropriate hand tools and personal equipment required to perform trailer maintenance and repair tasks., • Experience performing preventative maintenance on trailers or similar equipment., • Strong adherence to safety practices and the ability to follow detailed standard operating procedures. Additional Skills & Qualifications • ASE certification related to trailer, truck, or automotive repair., • Wheel end certification demonstrating knowledge of axle wheel end assemblies and proper installation procedures., • Brake and ABS certification validating expertise in brake systems and anti-lock braking systems., • Experience working with trailer repair, including brakes, welding, diesel systems, and hydraulics., • Comfort working in a team-based shop environment with multiple technicians., • Ability to read and follow technical instructions, procedures, and equipment guidelines. Work Environment You work in a safety-oriented, procedure-driven 5-bay shop alongside five experienced technicians and one technician trainee, following established SOP standards and equipment certifications. The schedule is a first-shift, Monday through Friday role from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with no weekend work and overtime available after the regular shift as needed, up to a 50-hour maximum cap. The environment emphasizes consistent safety practices, clear guidelines, and teamwork, with major shop equipment and large tools provided on-site while you supply your own hand tools. Dress expectations align with a practical, shop-based setting where appropriate work boots are supported through a boot program. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Atlanta, GA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $55000.00 - $82000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
