Job DescriptionDescription: DIAGNOSTIC DIESEL TECHNICIAN Department: Fleet & Maintenance Location: Santa Fe Springs, CA & Long Beach, CA Classification: Full-Time, Non-Exempt Reports To Shop Manager Position Summary Ecology Auto Parts, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and tech-savvy Diagnostic Diesel Technician to join our dynamic Fleet & Maintenance team. This position requires advanced knowledge in diesel mechanics paired with modern diagnostic expertise, specifically with Cummins and Paccar engine platforms. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of electronic diagnostic software, data analysis, and fault resolution to ensure our fleet is operating at peak performance. Working under the direction of the Shop Manager, the selected candidate will serve as the go-to technician for engine diagnostics, root cause analysis, and smart repair strategies, supporting operations at either our Long Beach or Santa Fe Springs locations. Responsibilities • Diagnose and repair engine issues using OEM diagnostic platforms (Cummins Insite, Paccar DAVIE4, etc.), • Conduct electrical, emission system, and sensor diagnostics across a variety of heavy-duty diesel trucks, • Interpret fault codes and performance data, update ECU software, and calibrate sensors as needed, • Perform advanced preventative maintenance and major component overhauls when necessary, • Troubleshoot aftertreatment systems, DEF issues, DPF regens, and other emissions-related concerns, • Document all repair activities in fleet maintenance software systems with accuracy and clarity, • Assist in training junior mechanics on electronic diagnostics and standard repair techniques, • Provide input on fleet condition and recommend strategies to reduce downtime and improve efficiency, • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety of assigned workspaces in accordance with OSHA and company standards Requirements: Qualifications/Knowledge/Critical Skills • Minimum 3 years of diesel mechanic experience with advanced troubleshooting abilities, • Proven experience with Cummins and Paccar engine diagnostics, software use, and repairs, • High School Diploma or equivalent (required); technical certification in Diesel Technology (preferred), • Valid Driver’s License and eligibility to work in the U.S., • Strong proficiency in electronic diagnostic tools, laptops, and OEM software systems, • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical service bulletins, • Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment, • Capable of lifting 50–75 pounds, bending, standing, and working in physically demanding conditions, • Commitment to safe practices and compliance with all federal and state regulations Physical Demands/Environmental Factors • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear, • Frequently required to stand and walk, • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds, • Requires regular lifting, pulling, and physical manipulation of tools and equipment, • Exposure to varying weather conditions, vehicle fluids, and noisy environments, • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus, • Some travel required Compensation The Diagnostic Diesel Technician role offers a competitive hourly wage range of $25 to $35 per hour, based on experience and diagnostic proficiency.
