Job DescriptionMedical Laboratory Scientist – Traveler Alternate Job Titles: • Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS), • Medical Technologist (MT), • Clinical Laboratory Technologist, • Medical Lab Technician (MLT) Onsite Flexibility: Onsite Contract Details: • Position Type: Contract, • Duration: 6 months, • Start Date: As soon as possible, • Shift/Hours: Nights, 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM (CST)Job SummaryThe Medical Laboratory Scientist – Traveler performs high-complexity laboratory testing and supports all phases of the lab’s diagnostic operations, ensuring accurate and timely patient results. The role requires strict adherence to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and quality assurance standards while maintaining accuracy in test execution, record-keeping, and equipment calibration. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, self-motivated, and committed to laboratory excellence.Key Responsibilities • Perform specimen analysis and processing in compliance with lab SOPs, • Maintain complete, accurate records of testing and results, • Follow all quality control and quality assurance procedures, • Identify and correct performance deviations or escalate to supervisor, • Review, interpret, and release test results in a timely manner, • Maintain reagents, test kits, and ensure all materials are properly labeled and dated, • Attend departmental and educational meetings for continued training, • Participate in internal and external audits and inspections, • Adhere to safety procedures and participate in ongoing safety education, • Provide excellent customer service and interdepartmental collaboration, • Maintain the appearance and organization of the lab work area, • Protect patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA standardsRequired Education, • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field, • OR an Associate’s degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, • Must meet CLIA requirements under 42 CFR 493.1433 (published March 14, 1990), • Foreign-educated candidates must provide a credential evaluation from IERF, • U.S.-educated candidates must provide original transcriptsRequired Certifications, • National certification as MT or MLT from ASCP or AMT (or eligible), • State licensure as applicableRequired Experience, • Minimum 1 year of clinical laboratory experience performing high-complexity testing, • Proficient in laboratory equipment operation and maintenance, • Knowledge of QC/QA procedures, specimen handling, and diagnostic standardsNice-to-Have Experience, • Multi-discipline lab experience (hematology, chemistry, microbiology), • Experience in hospital or reference lab environments, • Strong proficiency in laboratory information systems (LIS) and computer usageRequired Skills, • Analytical accuracy and precision in testing, • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking ability, • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively, • Effective communication with lab staff and clients, • Commitment to safety and regulatory compliancePreferred Skills, • Ability to train or mentor new lab personnel, • Strong documentation and auditing experience, • Experience supporting inspections or regulatory reviewsAdditional Requirements, • Adherence to confidentiality and data privacy laws, • Willingness to work variable night shifts and occasional weekendsBenefits, • Medical, Vision, and Dental Insurance, • 401(k) Retirement PlanAbout the ClientWe are a leading provider of diagnostic information services, empowering healthier lives through innovation and precision.
