Job Description Job Title: Brazer Job Description The Brazer assembles and brazes large diameter copper and steel piping systems used in natural gas, chiller, and industrial HVAC applications. This position focuses on heavy industrial torch brazing on piping from 1.5 inches to 4 inches in diameter, performing high-temperature joints in all positions while maintaining strict quality, safety, and process control standards. Residential-only HVAC brazing experience is not sufficient for this role. Responsibilities • Perform heavy industrial torch brazing on copper, steel, and alloy piping systems ranging from 1.5 inches to 4 inches in diameter., • Braze copper to copper, copper to steel, and copper to brass joints for natural gas, chiller, and industrial HVAC systems., • Assemble and join copper, steel, and alloy components used in chillers and HVAC systems, including piping, coils, compressors, valves, and fittings., • Complete brazed joints in multiple positions, including uphill, downhill, and horizontal orientations., • Heat joints to controlled brazing temperatures, typically between 600°ree;C and 900°ree;C (1,100°ree;F to 1,650°ree;F), based on base metals and filler materials., • Apply silver-based and copper-phosphorus filler alloys with melting ranges between 620°ree;C and 780°ree;C (1,150°ree;F and 1,435°ree;F)., • Monitor flame characteristics and heat distribution to ensure proper filler flow and to prevent overheating, oxidation, or distortion., • Use continuous nitrogen purging during brazing to prevent internal oxidation and carbon buildup., • Prepare joints by cleaning, fitting, and aligning components prior to heating to ensure proper joint integrity., • Inspect brazed joints visually and mechanically to verify proper flow, penetration, and structural integrity., • Perform pressure and leak testing using approved methods such as nitrogen testing and soap solution., • Repair defective joints and perform controlled rework following approved procedures and quality standards., • Maintain torches, regulators, temperature indicators, and gas supply systems in safe and reliable working condition., • Follow hot work permits, fire prevention protocols, and personal protective equipment requirements at all times., • Record process parameters and report deviations from approved temperature ranges or procedures., • Participate in quality and continuous improvement initiatives within the manufacturing environment., • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and piping schematics to complete assemblies accurately., • Work collaboratively with production, quality, and maintenance teams to meet production deadlines and performance goals., • Adhere to all safety, compliance, and applicable code requirements related to pressure equipment and piping. Essential Skills • Proven experience as a Pipefitter or Industrial Brazing Technician., • Hands-on experience with heavy industrial torch brazing on larger diameter piping (1.5 inches to 4 inches)., • Ability to braze copper to copper and copper to steel joints with consistent quality., • Experience achieving and controlling industrial brazing temperatures appropriate for base metals and filler materials., • Ability to perform brazing in all joint positions, including uphill, downhill, and horizontal., • Experience working with natural gas, chiller, or industrial HVAC systems., • Strong understanding of heat control, joint preparation, and filler material selection., • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and piping schematics., • Familiarity with pressure equipment and piping codes that govern design, fabrication, welding/brazing, inspection, and testing., • Proficiency with oxy-acetylene gas equipment for brazing and braze testing., • Experience using hand tools, power tools, saws, and pipe fitting tools in a manufacturing or industrial setting., • Demonstrated ability to perform assembly work joining copper, steel, and alloy components used in chillers and HVAC systems., • Capability to lift up to 45 pounds and stand for the majority of the shift., • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, walk, and climb portable ladders as required by the job., • Good manual dexterity and multi-limb coordination for precise torch and filler control., • Availability to work 2nd shift (Mon–Thurs 4:30 p.m.–3:00 a.m.) and mandatory overtime on Fridays as needed to meet production deadlines. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Completion of a brazing or welding school program focused on torch brazing on piping systems ranging from 1.5 inches to 4 inches in diameter., • Technical training in welding or brazing., • Exprience in manufacturing, pipefitting, or industrial assembly., • Experience in blueprint reading and industrial manufacturing processes., • Familiarity with plumbing practices related to industrial piping systems., • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety., • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic production environment., • Willingness to participate in continuous improvement and process optimization initiatives. Work Environment The role is based in a modern, air-conditioned manufacturing facility equipped with industry 4.0 technology and focused on green, energy-efficient solutions. The position operates on a 2nd shift schedule, Monday through Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 3:00 a.m., with a shift differential for hours worked on 2nd shift and mandatory overtime on Fridays as needed to meet production deadlines. The work involves heavy industrial brazing and assembly, requiring frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing portable ladders, as well as the ability to lift and move up to 45 pounds. The environment requires the regular use of hand tools, power tools, saws, pipe fitting equipment, torches, regulators, and gas supply systems. Personal protective equipment is required and includes appropriate safety gear for hot work and industrial manufacturing. The role demands good manual dexterity, multi-limb coordination, and strict adherence to safety protocols, hot work permits, and fire prevention measures.
