Job DescriptionDescription: The Director of Growth & Business Development is responsible for leading the firm’s overall growth strategy, client development efforts, and corporate capture initiatives. This role focuses on strategic revenue expansion across municipal, private, and agency clients, strengthening relationships, and building a disciplined, scalable business development framework to support the firm’s continued growth. This is a senior leadership position responsible for driving expansion, improving win rates, and increasing revenue across the firm’s service areas. The Director of Growth & BD works in close partnership with the Director of Marketing and Service Area Leaders to ensure alignment between positioning, client intelligence, pursuit strategy, and service capabilities. Responsibilities: Firmwide Growth Strategy • Develop and lead a comprehensive growth strategy aligned with long-term revenue goals and service area priorities., • Identify priority client tiers (municipal, private, agency) and define targeted growth approaches for each., • Establish 3–5 year growth roadmaps in collaboration with Service Area Leaders., • Advise executive leadership on expansion opportunities, partnerships, and strategic service investments., • Lead strategic relationship development efforts for target clients., • Strengthen relationships across existing municipal, private, and agency clients., • Drive cross-service collaboration to expand depth and breadth of services within existing clients., • Partner with Service Area Leaders to identify relationship gaps, growth opportunities, and succession strategies within key clients., • Provide leadership and oversight on high-value pursuits and strategic captures across service areas., • Lead go/no-go discussions in coordination with Marketing and Service Area Leaders., • Drive early pre-positioning efforts, including proactive client engagement well in advance of solicitations., • Develop and strengthen strategic teaming partnerships to enhance competitiveness and expand service capabilities., • Partner with Service Area Leaders to define capture strategies, competitive positioning, and win themes., • Actively participate in pursuit planning, including differentiation strategy and pricing alignment., • Play a hands-on role in interview strategy and preparation, including coaching and messaging alignment., • Establish and maintain a disciplined, firmwide business development process aligned with service area goals., • Partner with Marketing to ensure CRM integrity, adoption, and meaningful reporting., • Provide clear pipeline visibility across service areas., • Serve as a strategic partner to Service Area Leaders in aligning growth efforts with technical capabilities., • Ensure BD efforts are integrated across services rather than siloed., • Support Service Area Leaders in developing annual growth plans and measurable BD goals., • Facilitate collaboration between services to pursue multi-disciplinary opportunities., • Inspire a firmwide culture that values proactive business development., • Coach technical professionals in relationship development, positioning, and client engagement., • Align accountability, incentives, and expectations with growth objectives., • Build trust and collaboration across services and leadership teams., • 25+ years of progressively responsible civil engineering and management experience, • Civil Engineering industry sales experience, • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, business, marketing, or related field, • Proven record of sales growth and strong sales growth techniques, • Exceptional project management skills, • Demonstrated strong leadership skills, • Excellent communication skills with the ability to positively influence others, • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems, • Connecticut Professional Engineer license required, • Must be able to lift/move objects weighing up to 40 pounds, • Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time, • Industry-related certifications and professional licenses (e.g., PE, AICP, LEED, or equivalent) About BETA: BETA Group, Inc. is a New England based consultant engineering firm and leader in the fields of transportation, traffic, structural, civil/site, and water/wastewater engineering; landscape architecture; urban design and planning; GIS/asset management; environmental sciences and permitting; and construction services.
