The HR Generalist carries out responsibilities in general Human Resources functions including new hire orientation, performance management, Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) data management, employee relations, training and employee development, employment related activities that may also include applicant screening, recruiting and job posting activities, and interviewing. Are You Someone Who: • Is curious about people’s unique perspectives and experiences?, • Has passion for creating a sense of belonging at work?, • Is a natural collaborator who always seeks out new perspectives and fosters trusting relationships?, • Creates processes to increase work efficiencies and systems to work smarter not harder?, • Wants to be a part of an organization that is a direct reflection of our communities?, • Comfortably relates and communicates with people whose backgrounds and lived experiences are different than your own?, • Is agile and able to respond effectively to the changing needs of a growing organization?, • Responsible for assisting with and performing general Human Resources functions including administrative, payroll, and employment related activities., • Support recruiting efforts to help create a brand that attracts a wide range of applicants., • Manage the recruiting calendar and complete job postings, resume collection, and first pass review., • Facilitate and participate in the candidate selection process, including applicant tracking, recruiting, interviewing, new hire orientations and onboarding., • Oversee offboarding to ensure a smooth transition, including access removal, conducting exit interviews and managing results., • Serve as point of contact for employees and managers, build strong relationships while providing coaching, guidance, and support., • Collaborate with staff, partners, and stakeholders to drive alignment and achieve strategic organizational goals., • Investigate employee relations issues and work with employees and managers to resolve issues; prepare recommendations to upper management concerning human resource issues and concerns; work with leaders to draft and review coaching and corrective action documents and employee evaluations; escalate more serious or complex issues to Chief Workforce and Operations Officer as needed., • Maintain personnel files and data in HRIS in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies., • Support the development and administration of HR policies, practices, procedures, and programs in accordance with applicable laws and regulations., • Assist in planning special events, including employee appreciation events, all-staff meetings and community events., • Manage and administer FMLA., • Process unemployment claims according to established standards., • Maintain confidentiality of employee personnel records and database information; benefits and health information; payroll and salary information and other sensitive and confidential information., • Work directly with the Chief Workforce & Operations Officer on coordinating reports due to Executive Director, Board of Directors, committees, and follow up to ensure all tasks are completed timely., • Performs other related duties as required. Qualifications: Education, Experience & Training • Demonstrated relevant experience in HR field with progressive Human Resources working knowledge of recruiting, benefits and compensation, or other similar practices., • Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred or, in lieu of a degree, 4 years’ minimum experience in an HR Generalist, Recruiting or related role., • SHRM-CP and/or PHR certification preferred., • HR competence and strong knowledge of general HR processes., • Ability to approach the role with a “partner” mindset, a sense of urgency, creative problem-solving and attention to detail., • Demonstrated knowledge of US and state labor laws., • Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality and integrity., • Ability to influence at all levels in the organization., • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships across stakeholders., • Familiarity with HR analytics, including how to drive impact in recruitment, talent, and other metrics., • Ability to prioritize workload to manage time and tasks in a dynamic environment., • Proficient skills across the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint)., • Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally, empathetically, and effectively verbally and in writing, with a range of audiences., • Strong work ethic with an eye for detail., • High ability to exercise sound judgement and discretion., • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills., • English language proficiency is essential and Spanish/English bilingual skills are a plus. Additional languages – even better., • Experience with project management and collective bargaining contract administration., • Outstanding administrative and organization skills with demonstrated ability to multitask and recognize established priorities. Evidence of a commitment to excellence in all areas., • Ability to keep and/or to supervise the keeping of complex records; assemble and organize data of a complex nature and to prepare and submit required reports from such records., • Apply effective team building skills, sensitivity, and commitment to a diverse and unionized workplace., • Manage project budgets and monitor expenditures on a regular basis., • Commitment to union principles and values and ability to work in a unionized environment., • Ability to work flexible hours and/or extended hours. Authority and Relationships: Responsible to the immediate supervisor; recommends policy and procedure changes to and through the immediate supervisor. This position is based in Columbus, Ohio and the role requires some travel throughout the state of Ohio. Benefits and Salary Information Salary is commensurate with experience.
