Job DescriptionJob Title: CNC Operator Job Description This role operates and sets up CNC machines in a clean, climate-controlled manufacturing environment across multiple shift options. The CNC Operator works from blueprints and written specifications to produce precision parts, performs first-article inspections, and ensures parts meet quality and time standards. The position involves running multiple CNC machines, performing secondary operations, and supporting other operators while maintaining a strong focus on safety and housekeeping. Responsibilities • Promote and maintain a proactive safety culture by following all safety procedures and reporting unsafe conditions to supervision or maintenance., • Work from drawings, blueprints, job layouts, and other written specifications to determine feeds, speeds, tooling, and operational sequences for machining operations., • Set up CNC machines and perform first-article inspections on any proven program, submitting parts for Quality Assurance verification with a target of at least 80% approval., • Install cutting tools and various workholding devices, such as vises and fixtures, to accommodate the size and type of stock being machined., • Change cutting tools and adjust the location of workpieces as needed during the machining process to maintain part quality and productivity., • Operate, monitor, and adjust CNC machines to ensure parts conform to specifications and meet established time standards., • Make necessary adjustments to machine setups and offsets during production runs to maintain dimensional accuracy and consistent output., • Take responsibility for the completeness and correctness of secondary setups associated with assigned jobs., • Detect and report improper machine operation, faulty equipment, unusual conditions, and significant variances from job standards., • After completion and approval of the first-article verification, train and monitor the work of operators assigned to the same machine., • Run multiple CNC machines as required to meet production schedules., • Perform secondary operations as defined by the traveler using various equipment such as files, drill presses, and sanders., • Assist other operators in understanding which dimensions to inspect and which measuring tools and gauges to use., • Verify the quality of parts before forwarding them to the next operation or process, ensuring compliance with specifications., • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the individual work area and contribute to overall facility housekeeping., • Use micrometers, calipers, height gauges, dial indicators, and other precision measuring tools to inspect parts and verify dimensions., • Apply knowledge of offsets, edge finders, and dial indicators to accurately set up and adjust CNC machines., • Perform other related duties as assigned to support production and departmental goals.Essential Skills, • Hands-on experience operating CNC machines, including the ability to run multiple machines as needed., • Ability to set up a 3-axis CNC mill, including installing vises, cutting jaws, and picking up zeros., • Proficiency in installing and replacing tooling in CNC machines, including setting new Z tool heights and replacing broken or worn tools in holders., • Strong understanding of machine offsets and the ability to adjust them to maintain part quality., • Experience using an edge finder and dial indicator for machine setup and part alignment., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and written specifications accurately., • Skilled in the use of precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and dial indicators., • Capability to determine appropriate feeds, speeds, tooling, and operational sequences based on job requirements., • Competence in detecting and reporting improper operation, faulty equipment, and unusual conditions during production., • Ability to ensure parts meet quality standards before moving them to subsequent operations.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience operating CNC mills and lathes, including Haas or similar CNC equipment., • Familiarity with secondary operations such as drilling, filing, and sanding using drill presses, files, and sanders., • Comfort working with travelers and production documentation to complete jobs correctly., • Ability to support and train other operators after first-article verification is complete., • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean and organized work area., • Willingness to work on A, B, or C shift schedules as needed by production.Why Work Here? Work Environment The work environment is climate controlled, clean, and organized, with a fairly large CNC department of approximately 12 operators per shift. Team members work near moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to airborne particles and chemicals, and the noise level is typically very loud. Appropriate personal protective equipment is required, including safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety shoes. Multiple shift options are available: A Shift runs Monday through Thursday for 10-hour shifts with Friday through Sunday off; B Shift runs Monday through Thursday from approximately 4:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. with weekends off; C Shift runs Friday through Sunday from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Monday from 5:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., with Tuesday through Thursday off. The facility uses CNC mills and lathes along with various secondary operation tools, providing a modern and professional production environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of RALEIGH, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $26.00/hr.
