Job Description We have an immediate opening for a Legal Secretary to support a solo practitioner in Berkeley. This is a great opportunity to join a quiet, professional office and assist with a practice focused on real property and business law litigation. This a long-term contract that is primarily hybrid. One day a week on-site in Berkeley is required to handle filings. Responsibilities • Draft, format, and proofread legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and correspondence, • Prepare and maintain tables of contents (TOCs) and tables of authorities (TOAs), • Handle electronic filing (e-filing) in state and federal courts, • Assist with discovery responses, including organizing and formatting documents, • Maintain and update case files and client records in Clio (database use only, not billing), • Coordinate scheduling for hearings, depositions, and client meetings, • Make occasional outbound calls to screen potential new clients (no inbound calls required), • Provide general administrative support, including scanning, copying, and organizing document Qualifications • Minimum 4 years of experience as a Legal Secretary in civil litigation, • Strong knowledge of legal terminology, court rules, and filing procedures, • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and familiarity with formatting legal documents, • Experience with e-filing systems and case management software (Clio preferred), • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment, • Strong written and verbal communication skills, • Comfortable working independently in a small office setting, • Professional demeanor and discretion when handling confidential information
