Job Description Job Title: General Production Worker (Extrusion / Offline / Downstream Operator) Job Description This role supports a high-volume industrial manufacturing operation that produces high-density polyethylene (HDPE) conduit used in construction, telecommunications, transportation, and electrical applications. General production workers contribute in the Offline, Downstream, and Extrusion departments by building and prepping reels, operating machinery, handling materials, and ensuring products meet quality specifications. This is an active, hands-on position that requires mechanical aptitude, comfort with hand and power tools, and the ability to work on your feet in a fast-paced, non-climate-controlled environment. Responsibilities • Support the Offline department by preparing materials before and after the production lines, including building steel reels using bolts, hand tools, and power tools., • Assemble reels by using hand and power tools and ensure they are correctly built and ready for production., • Load scrap reels onto grinders, manually cut scrap materials, and ensure scrap is properly processed for disposal or recycling., • Operate grinders and related equipment to regrind material chunks into pellets for further processing., • Assist with extrusion and machine operation, including working with extrusion machines and related production equipment., • Set up extrusion and related machines, including changing screens, filters, and adjusting temperatures as needed under guidance., • Work as a Downstream Operator in the Extrusion department, using standard tools and measuring devices to ensure the final product meets customer specifications., • Monitor the final product being wrapped around reels, ensuring it is wrapped evenly, neatly, and in accordance with quality standards., • Perform routine quality inspections of parts, including visual checks and measurements, to identify abnormalities or defects., • Use measuring tools, such as tape measures and calipers, to verify that conduit and other products meet required dimensions and specifications., • Cut conduit to specified lengths and product requirements using saws and other cutting tools., • Check packaging and labeling to ensure accuracy before products are sent for final inspection and shipment., • Perform heavy lifting of industrial pipes (approximately 30–40 pounds) using proper lifting techniques and team lifting when needed to place products onto carts., • Route the ends of conduit and prepare them for fittings, ensuring proper finishing and readiness for further assembly or installation., • Use various hand tools, power tools, impact guns, saws, and other equipment safely and effectively during daily tasks., • Maintain a clean and organized work area by performing light housekeeping duties and removing debris as needed., • Work proactively, stay busy, and support cross-training efforts by learning different roles within the production environment., • Follow all safety guidelines, including the use of composite or steel-toe footwear and adherence to plant safety policies., • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production goals, maintain consistent product quality, and support continuous improvement., • Adapt to different shifts and assignments within the plant as needed, including Offline Operator, Downstream Operator, Line Operator, and Material Handler roles. Essential Skills • At least 1 year of experience in industrial manufacturing (not including warehouse experience)., • 3 years of manufacturing experience, preferably in a non-climate-controlled environment., • Consistent work history and at least 1 year of steady employment leading up to this role., • Experience in industrial manufacturing environments with exposure to production equipment and processes., • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot basic mechanical issues., • Machine operating experience, particularly in production or extrusion environments., • Comfort and proficiency with hand tools and power tools, including impact guns and saws., • Ability to use measuring tools such as tape measures and calipers accurately., • Experience in general production, general labor, assembly, and packaging., • Ability to perform inspections and quality checks on manufactured products., • Capability to perform heavy lifting of 30–40 pound pipes using proper techniques and team lifting., • Comfort working on your feet all day in a busy, physically demanding role., • Willingness and ability to work in a loud, dusty, non-climate-controlled industrial facility., • Strong mechanical inclination with the ability to learn machine setup, including changing screens, filters, and temperature settings., • Basic troubleshooting skills for production equipment and processes., • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and adhere to safety protocols., • Reliable attendance and the ability to work a rotating 2-2-3 shift schedule (including days and nights). Additional Skills & Qualifications • Machine operator or extrusion operator experience is preferred., • Experience in construction, automotive, or similar hands-on industries is highly beneficial., • Familiarity with extrusion machines, grinders, and production lines is an advantage., • Experience with production lines, shipping and receiving, and press brake operations is a plus., • Exposure to plastics manufacturing or working with HDPE or similar materials is preferred., • Ability to be cross-trained in multiple roles within the plant, including Offline, Downstream, Line Operator, and Material Handler positions., • Comfort working with tools and willingness to further develop mechanical skills; candidates can be trained if they are mechanically inclined., • Demonstrated ability to stay proactive, keep busy, and contribute to a team-oriented environment., • Comfort routing conduit ends and preparing them for fittings., • Ability to perform cleaning and basic maintenance tasks to keep workspaces and equipment in good condition., • Openness to contract work of up to 6 months, with the possibility of extension or conversion to a direct role based on performance., • Willingness to adhere to safety requirements, including wearing composite or steel-toe footwear. Work Environment The role is based in a clean heavy industrial manufacturing plant focused on producing HDPE conduit. The facility is non-climate-controlled, so temperatures will vary with the seasons, and the environment can be loud and dusty with industrial debris. Team members work in a busy, active setting and spend most of their shift on their feet, performing physically demanding tasks such as lifting 30–40 pound pipes (often using team lifts). The plant operates multiple 12-hour shifts on a 2-2-3 schedule (two days on, two days off, three days on), with both day and night shifts available (7:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.). Over a two-week period, employees work 48 hours one week and 36 hours the next. The environment is team-oriented and cross-trainable, with opportunities to move between Offline, Downstream, Line Operator, and Material Handler roles. Workers regularly use hand tools, power tools, tape measures, calipers, grinders, extrusion machines, impact guns, saws, and other production equipment. Appropriate industrial footwear, such as composite or steel-toe shoes, is required, and employees are expected to follow all safety and housekeeping standards to maintain a safe and orderly workspace. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Salt Lake City, UT. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $41600.00 - $43680.00/yr.
