Job Description The City of Clayton Public Works Department is now accepting applications for the position of Part-Time Fleet Mechanic (Temporary). The Part-Time Fleet Mechanic (Temporary) performs a wide range of mechanical work in maintaining and repairing automotive and mechanical equipment. Fleet Maintenance staff perform work on City fleet cars and trucks as well as nontraditional vehicles such as Zambonis, street sweepers, fire trucks, ambulances, police vehicles and more! Employee Compensation: • Diagnoses, troubleshoots, services, maintains, repairs and rebuilds components of cars, light and heavy trucks, fire apparatus, truck equipment, trailers, tractors, heavy equipment and machinery including gasoline and diesel engines, manual and automatic transmissions, clutches, drive trains, differentials, brake systems, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, exhaust, electrical, steering, cooling, air conditioning, suspension, frames, lighting and communications systems., • Troubleshoots equipment and vehicles through various types of equipment – computers, handheld scanners, diagnostic equipment, etc., • Determines and performs preventative maintenance including lubrication, oil changes and tune-ups on cars, light and heavy trucks, fire apparatus, truck equipment, trailers, tractors, heavy equipment and machinery., • Maintains work area in a safe and clean manner., • Responds to service, maintenance and repair calls at job sites., • Fabricates special products by using processes such as welding, torch cutting, and other established methods., • Performs routine inspections and preventative maintenance on assigned machinery and equipment as directed., • Inspects City vehicles for compliance to State safety standards., • Installs lights and radio equipment on vehicles and equipment., • Maintain records as required., • Performs other duties as assigned., • Operates electronic devices (i.e. computer tablet, cell phone) for fleet management software, work orders, email communications, trainings, meetings etc., • High School Diploma, or equivalent., • Three (3) to five (5) years of vehicle inspection, maintenance and repair experience., • Must have a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or the ability to attain within six (6) months of employment., • Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) Certifications or the ability to attain within twelve (12) months of employment Applications for the Mechanic position will be accepted until the position has been filled.
