Job Description SIGNING BONUS - Job: Application Engineer Location: Indianapolis, IN Job Description: PTS Automation’s Application Engineer contributes to its mission of instilling confidence through exceptional automation solutions by providing expert-level technical support and automation solutions that advance our customers’ processes. The Application Engineer will be responsible for working with members of PTSA’s sales, manufacturing, and engineering teams to provide our customers with unique, customized automated solutions to fit their manufacturing requirements. This includes developing detailed project quotes by assessing customer needs, estimating costs, selecting appropriate components, and outlining project requirements to ensure accurate and competitive proposals. In addition, the Application Engineer will play a key role in the integration and deployment of robotic solutions, including industrial robotic arms, collaborative robots (cobots), and Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs). Responsibilities will include evaluating robotic applications for feasibility, defining system layouts, and recommending robotic platforms and end-of-arm tooling tailored to customer processes. The engineer will also be involved in programming, simulation, and proof-of-concept demonstrations to validate system performance. By leveraging expertise in robotics, motion control, and automation integration, the Application Engineer will ensure solutions maximize efficiency, flexibility, and ROI for customers. This position requires staying current with the latest advancements in robotic technology—including AI-driven path planning, fleet management systems for AMRs, and safety compliance standards—while effectively communicating these benefits to customers and internal teams. Responsibilities: PTSA’s Application Engineer has the following responsibilities and duties: • Evaluate, design, and integrate industrial robots, collaborative robots (cobots), and Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) into customer applications., • Create and present feasibility studies, simulations, and proof-of-concept demonstrations for robotic and automation projects., • Program, configure, and optimize robotic systems, including end-of-arm tooling and motion control solutions., • Support deployment, testing, and commissioning of automation projects at customer sites., • Stay current with industry trends and new technologies in robotics, AMRs, and automation to ensure cutting-edge solutions., • Ensure compliance with safety standards, risk assessments, and best practices for robotic and automation systems., • Provide technical support and training for customers and internal teams on robotic solutions along with product demonstrations to educate customers on PTS Automation solutions., • Assist in continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency, reliability, and ROI of delivered solutions., • Responsible for answering questions about technology-based products and educate customers on their effective use., • Leverage in-depth knowledge of electronic systems, computer systems, and software applications to diagnose and resolve technical issues., • Collaborate closely with PTS Automation team members and customers through in-person meetings, email, or phone to address technical concerns., • Coordinate with manufacturers, the PTS Automation Sales Team, and Customer Service to provide technical expertise on the products represented by PTS Automation., • Responsible for understanding and providing quality feedback on new hardware or software packages introduced by manufacturers and their ease of use., • Provide programming and configuration assistance from the office or onsite with customers., • Creation of product guides, quick start guides and manuals on relevant product subject matter., • Review customer requirements, RFQs (Request for Quotation), and project specifications in detail., • Develop detailed quotes for automation projects, including cost estimation, component selection, and labor requirements., • Prepare and present project proposals to customers, outlining technical solutions and associated costs., • Support the transition from quote to project execution by ensuring a smooth and detailed handoff of the technical details to controls engineering., • Refine quoting templates and processes for future estimates., • Step into controls-related tasks when their expertise aligns with project needs., • Apply specialized skills in areas like robotics, PLC programming, motion control, and industrial networking to support more complex automation solutions, bridging into controls engineering for specific applications., • Travel to customers for projects, project reviews, product demo’s and troubleshooting support, • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering/Electrical Engineering Technology or 2-year related technical degree., • 2-5 Years of working experience of Application Engineering related work experience, • Must have at least 1 year of PLC and HMI programming experience, and at least 1 year of AMR and Industrial Arm Experience.
