Job DescriptionDescription: The SVP of Engagement is a senior executive responsible for advancing the Association's mission through integrated strategies that strengthen member engagement, marketing, communications, brand awareness, and stakeholder relationships across North Carolina and South Carolina. Reporting directly to the President & CEO, the SVP of Engagement serves as a key member of the executive leadership team and has supervisory responsibility for staff and functions related to member engagement, marketing, communications, and professional development offerings. The position ensures a seamless member experience across the entire engagement lifecycle, from first awareness and membership acquisition through long-term retention, volunteer leadership, advocacy participation, professional learning, and organizational loyalty. The SVP of Engagement leads efforts to position the Association as the leading voice and trusted resource for its members throughout North Carolina and South Carolina. This position follows a hybrid work schedule of at least two in-office days at either our Raleigh, NC or Columbia, SC offices. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Strategic Leadership and Oversight • Develops and implements a comprehensive engagement strategy aligned with the Association's strategic plan. Serves as a strategic advisor to the President/CEO on member trends, engagement opportunities, and stakeholder needs, and prepares data, analysis, and recommendations that inform the President/CEO’s advisory relationship with the Board of Directors., • Operates within broad guidelines and priorities established by the President/CEO; approval of annual goals, objectives, and budget for engagement, marketing, membership, and professional development functions is achieved through agreement with the President/CEO., • Fosters a member-centric culture throughout the organization and identifies emerging opportunities to strengthen member value and organizational growth, with consistent delivery of a superior member experience as the measure of success., • Establishes measurable goals and key performance indicators for engagement, communications, marketing, membership, and professional development initiatives consistent with objectives agreed upon with the President/CEO., • Provides executive oversight of the Association's professional development offerings to ensure alignment with member needs, strategic priorities, and high-quality learning outcomes, reflected in growth in program participation. Membership and Member Engagement • Leads strategies for membership recruitment, retention, renewal, and re-engagement, with membership growth and retention as the primary performance measure. Develops programs that increase member participation, satisfaction, and loyalty., • Oversees member engagement initiatives, communities, chapters, councils, committees, and volunteer leadership programs, building stronger and more consistent volunteer engagement., • Monitors membership trends and develops data-driven strategies to improve retention and growth, including enhancement of the onboarding experience for new members., • Strengthens relationships with key member segments across both states, evidenced by measurable gains in member participation and satisfaction. Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, and Brand Management • Provides supervisory leadership and strategic oversight for all marketing and communications work supporting membership, events, professional development offerings, sponsorships, and strategic initiatives, driving growth in event attendance and program participation., • Manages the Association's market positioning and value proposition to enhance brand recognition and visibility across both states., • Develops and executes an integrated communications strategy, overseeing member communications, public relations, media relations, executive communications, and crisis communications, in support of effective communications and stakeholder engagement., • Ensures consistency of voice, messaging, and brand identity across all channels., • Collaborates with government affairs and public policy staff to support advocacy communications. Digital Engagement and Member Experience • Leads the Association's digital engagement strategy, including website, member portal, mobile platforms, and social engagement, to increase digital engagement and audience reach., • Continuously evaluates and improves the member experience across all touchpoints, leveraging technology and data analytics to personalize member engagement., • Partners with technology vendors to maximize CRM and marketing automation capabilities and uses member feedback and engagement data to drive continuous improvement. Team Leadership • Builds, supervises, mentors, and leads a high-performing team responsible for membership, marketing, communications, professional development offerings, and engagement functions., • Ensures reporting staff have clear direction, priorities, accountability, and support for ongoing professional growth., • Fosters collaboration across departments and ensures alignment of organizational priorities., • Establishes a culture of innovation, accountability, and service excellence, and manages departmental budgets and resources effectively., • Other duties as assigned by the President/CEO. SKILLS / ABILITIES • Strategic thinking and executive presence, with the ability to serve as a credible advisor to the President/CEO., • Strong member focus and relationship-building skills across diverse stakeholder groups., • Demonstrated leadership and team development capability, including managing through change., • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication and storytelling skills., • Strong analytical and strategic planning capabilities, with the ability to use data to inform decisions., • Collaborative, influence-driven leadership style paired with an innovation and growth mindset. QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, business administration, nonprofit management, public relations, or a related field; Master's degree preferred., • Ten or more years of progressively responsible leadership experience in associations, nonprofits, professional societies, chambers of commerce, or membership-based organizations., • Demonstrated success leading membership growth and engagement initiatives., • Strong experience in marketing, communications, and brand strategy., • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and organizational change., • Demonstrated experience managing departmental budgets and resources., • CAE (Certified Association Executive) credential preferred., • Experience serving multi-state, statewide, or regional membership organizations preferred., • Familiarity with advocacy and government relations environments preferred.
