Job Description Cabling Superintendent – Data Center Deployments Engagement Type: Contract / Contract-to-Hire Location: Remote / Field-Based (US) Travel: 100% Travel (Primarily US, Some International) Role Overview The Cabling Superintendent is a boots-on-the-ground, execution-focused field leader responsible for delivering large-scale structured cabling deployments in data center environments. This role requires hands-on leadership of installation crews during high-density, high-connection-count builds, including AI-focused data center deployments. Serving as the primary on-site authority, the Superintendent oversees all aspects of structured cabling execution—ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, and to specification, while meeting industry standards and client expectations. This individual directly manages technicians and subcontractors, coordinates with other trades, and partners closely with Technical Project Leads (TPLs) and senior field leadership. This role is ideal for a field-first leader who thrives in fast-paced environments, is comfortable living on the road, and has grown from a strong installer into a confident site leader. Travel Expectations • 100% travel required, • Approximately 80% domestic (US), 20% international, • Active, up-to-date passport required, • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and off-hours as required by site access, • On-site durations range from 1 week to 1+ month, depending on project phase Key Responsibilities Field Leadership & Execution • Lead on-site execution of structured cabling in data center environments, • Supervise multiple cabling crews (often 30–40 technicians) and subcontractors, • Oversee large-scale deployments involving tens of thousands of connections, • Oversee all structured cabling work, including:, • Copper and fiber backbone and horizontal cabling, • Low-voltage pathways, • Cable pulling, terminations, splicing, labeling, and testing, • Execute and enforce cabling standards for:, • MPO/MTP fiber (MPO12 / MPO24), • LC breakouts, • Perform and oversee quality control inspections, ensuring:, • Proper cable routing and bend radius, • Correct slack loops and labeling, • Proper segregation of power and data, • Accurate rack, patch panel, and cabinet installations, • Oversee testing and certification, including:, • Tier 1 and Tier 2 fiber testing, • OTDR testing and fiber loss validation, • Copper continuity, insertion loss, and PoE testing, • Optical power meter and light source testing, • Read, interpret, and enforce:, • Design drawings and specifications, • Cabling schedules, • Work orders and contract documents, • Industry standards (TIA, ANSI, BICSI best practices), • Develop cabling work plans and schedules aligned with project timelines, • Establish milestones for pulls, terminations, testing, and closeout, • Plan and manage resources including labor, subcontractors, tools, materials, spares, and test equipment, • Monitor daily field progress and conduct job walks, • Identify, mitigate, and escalate risks, delays, or conflicts, • Coordinate daily with:, • Field technicians, • Subcontractors, • Data center operations teams, • Project leadership and Technical Project Leads, • Lead cabling coordination meetings and resolve routing/pathway conflicts with other trades, • Serve as the primary on-site liaison with:, • Clients, • General contractors, • Ensure strict compliance with OSHA, site safety policies, and company standards, • Maintain accountability for cabling materials, tools, spools, and test equipment, • Mentor, train, and supervise technicians, foremen, and subcontractors, • Promote continuous improvement in cabling methods, tools, and field processes, • Complete required security awareness training, • Identify and escalate security risks and support remediation efforts, • Perform other duties as assigned Required Skills & Experience • 7+ years of experience in structured cabling, telecommunications, or low-voltage construction, • Proven experience working in data centers or high-density cabling environments, • Prior field leadership experience as a Superintendent, Foreman, or Lead, overseeing multiple crews, • Strong hands-on expertise with:, • Copper cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A), • Fiber optics (single-mode, multi-mode, splicing, terminations), • Deep familiarity with:, • TIA-568, TIA-569, TIA-606, • ANSI/TIA and BICSI standards, • Strong ability to read and enforce:, • Construction, telecom, and architectural drawings, • Detailed cabling schedules, • Experience with cable testing and certification equipment (OTDRs, certifiers, optical test gear), • Proficiency with project scheduling and reporting tools (MS Project, Primavera, or similar), • Deep understanding of data center architectures, including:, • Spine-leaf network designs, • Rack-level cabling and patching, • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal abilities, • Physical ability to:, • Climb ladders, • Access ceiling plenums and confined spaces, • Lift cable reels and materials within safe limits, • Strong safety mindset and working knowledge of OSHA regulations Nice to Have • BICSI certifications (RCDD or technician credentials), • Experience with commissioning, acceptance testing, or site audits, • Experience coordinating with other low-voltage systems:, • Security, • Access control, • AV, • Fire alarm systems, • Familiarity with CAD, AutoCAD, Revit, or BIM, • Experience with advanced fiber infrastructure:, • MTP/MPO systems, • Pre-terminated fiber trunks, • Experience working in AI-focused data centers, • Exposure to liquid cooling environments (rear-door heat exchangers, etc.), • Vendor experience with companies such as CommScope Best Fit Profile • Field-first leader who thrives on-site, • Comfortable with continuous travel, • Strong installer who has grown into leadership, • Calm, decisive, and effective in high-pressure, fast-paced deployments
