Come join us! Alcuin School now has an opening for a Toddler Guide for the 2026-2027 academic year. We are looking for an individual who meets the following criteria: GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY The Toddler Guide prepares the Montessori environment, guides each child to reach his or her fullest potential, and collaborates with parents to support the growth and development of the whole child. JOB SCOPE The Toddler Guide is responsible for maintaining the required Minimum Standards and Guidelines for State childcare licensing, preparing and maintaining the classroom environment per AMI standards, implementation and delivery of AMI Assistants to Infancy curriculum, guiding each child to reach his/her full potential, and working closely with parents to establish a strong relationship between families and the school. This position is a lead worker who guides and works closely with a classroom Assistant. This position works directly with students and parents, and closely with the Director of Toddler. This position works more occasionally with the Director of Primary, the Office of Admissions, the Health Office, and the Director of Student Support, as well as consulting with external therapists as needed. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Maintains the Texas Department of Health and Human Services Minimum Standards and Guidelines for Childcare, and required records for such, including completion of 24 required annual professional development hours, and required annual trainings., • Establishes, maintains, and cares for the physical aspect of the Prepared Environment, per AMI standards., • Nurtures the growth and development of the whole child by preparing her/himself to create the psychological environment of the classroom., • Links the child to the Prepared Environment by carefully observing the child’s development and presenting all aspects of the AMI Assistants to Infancy curriculum., • Guides and works cooperatively with the classroom Assistant., • Develops a relationship with caregivers to educate and work in partnership to support the growth of the whole child., • Keeps and maintains detailed records of each child’s progress based on classroom observations., • Prepares and conducts conferences with parents, completes conference reports, and keeps records of parent communications., • Communicates proactively with parents, administrators, and student support staff concerning student’s overall well-being., • Participates in an annual evaluation process including classroom observations, self-reflection, goal setting, and performance review., • Strives in all areas to exhibit the behaviors and expectations outlined in the Staff Handbook under Alcuin Standards of Faculty Excellence. MARGINAL FUNCTIONS • Attends community functions, required events, and parent education events as detailed in the Staff Handbook., • Completes confidential student evaluation forms as required in the application process for other schools., • Other tasks, as assigned by the Head of School. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS Required: • Ability to provide documents verifying authorization to work in the U.S., • Must pass Criminal Background Checks and Drug Testing, • Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) Assistants to Infancy 0-3 diploma, • 2 years of experience leading a Montessori Toddler classroom, • Deep passion for Montessori and the 0-3 child, • Strong verbal and written communication skills, • Ability to be a team player Preferred: • Four-year degree or higher, • Spanish speaking, • Experience with Microsoft Office suite applications INTERNAL CONTACTS • Director of Toddler: regular and proactive communication about students, parents, and other aspects of the toddler program, • Director of Primary: occasional communication regarding toddlers moving up to Primary, • Director of Student Support: occasionally consults and collaborates with student support regarding families or students that require additional support outside of the scope of the classroom EXTERNAL CONTACTS • Parents: formal conferencing twice a year and additional communication as needed, daily greeting at arrival and dismissal, and occasional presentation of parent education opportunities, • Substitutes: guiding substitutes in the classroom, • External therapists: collaborating with outside therapists to support the growth and development of the child SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY • none BENEFITS Full time faculty and staff at Alcuin are provided with the following benefits: • High deductible Health Plan (HDHP), • Health Savings Account (HSA), • Alight, • Employee Assistance Program (EAP), • Voluntary Dental Plan, • Vision Plan, • Basic Life/AD&D Plan, • Long Term Disability (LTD) Plan, • 403b Plan, • Long Term Care (LTC) Plan, • Aflac, • Legal Shield PAY RANGE Pay is based on experience and is competitive with Independent Schools in the Dallas, Texas, area. WORK SCHEDULE Generally, Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 1:30 pm. There will be some afternoon or weekend work for events and professional development opportunities. Federal holidays, Spring Break, and summers off.
