Job Description Teacher Assistant – Transitions Program Part-Time/Non-Exempt Location: Cherry Hill, NJ Compensation Range: $21-22.00/per hour Reports to: Program Supervisor Position Summary: The Teacher Assistant will work closely with the educational and clinical staff in our Transitions program to provide individualized support to students, implement lesson plans, and contribute to a safe and therapeutic classroom environment. This position requires a flexible and adaptable individual who can handle diverse student needs and maintain professionalism in challenging situations. First Children Services is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teacher Assistant to support teachers, counselors and students in our therapeutic education program for grades 7 to 12. This role is crucial in creating a positive and supportive learning environment that fosters academic growth and emotional well-being in students who experience anxiety, school refusal, and other mental health issues. The ideal candidate will have a strong desire to make a difference in the lives of students and possess patience, empathy, and a genuine understanding of the challenges faced by students who are struggling to be successful in school. Job Responsibilities: • Student Support: Provide individual and small group support to students academically, socially, and emotionally, as directed by the teacher and therapeutic team., • Classroom Management: Assist the teacher in maintaining a structured and organized classroom environment, including managing student behavior and implementing classroom rules., • Lesson Implementation: Support the teacher in implementing lesson plans, including preparing materials, assisting with activities, and providing feedback to students., • Therapeutic Support: Implement strategies and techniques as directed by the therapeutic team to support students' emotional regulation and social skills development., • Observation and Documentation: Observe and document student progress, behavior, and emotional responses, sharing information with the teacher and therapeutic team., • Communication: Communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers, therapists, and other staff members., • Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with the interdisciplinary team, including teachers, therapists, counselors, and administrators., • Confidentiality: Maintain strict confidentiality regarding student information., • Professional Development: Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to working with students with mental health needs. This role will be part of the care team, reporting to the program supervisor. Basic Qualifications: • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in education, psychology, social work, or a related field preferred., • NJ Substitute Teacher certification is recommended, • Experience working with children or adolescents, particularly those with mental health needs, is highly desirable., • Knowledge of and/or willingness to learn about various mental health diagnoses and related challenges associated with school refusal., • Strong interpersonal and communication skills., • Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to support students' growth and well-being., • Ability to work effectively as part of a team., • Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in challenging situations., • Ability to follow directions and implement strategies consistently.
