Job Description Summary The Vice President of Freight Forwarding Operations reports to the LOGISTEED America, Inc. President & COO. This role will primarily have full responsibility and accountability for the company’s direction, operations and growth efforts in the Freight Forwarding division. Essential Functions • Performing tasks safely, • Ensuring area housekeeping requirements are met, • Abiding by all OSHA rules and LOGISTEED America, Inc. safety practices, • Meeting established procedures and productivity, safety and quality standards, • Meets attendance & punctuality standards, • Communicate both orally and in writing in a clear and concise manner, • This position will have responsibility to develop, plan and implement key activity and to drive critical and strategic growth across our North American operations so they must be driven and extremely organized, • Responsible for developing freight forwarding business strategies and structures for freight forwarding within North America, including three-year business planning, • Develop marketing strategies and tactics in line with the three-year business plan to sustain and grow business, • Develop marketing strategies in line with the three-year plan for both Automobile and Non-Automobile areas, • Develop, plan and implement programs to win business in new markets and with new customers by identifying potential business opportunities and setting out an excellent case to gain the business, • Utilize industry experience, knowledge, and network to expand LOGISTEED’S presence, • Develop measures of Key Performance Indicators in line with three-year growth plan and then sustainable measures going forward, • Working knowledge of the Japan business culture, • Maintain current knowledge of relevant legislation, political situations and other factors that could affect the movement of freight, • Manage multiple customers across the globe coordinating shipments between multiple carriers and modes of transportation, • Knowledge of state, federal and international applicable laws and regulations as they relate to primary services provided (i.e. Customs, Security, other import & export government agencies), • Supports the President in contributing to the business plan, • Participates as a member of the organization’s leadership team in problem, planning, and strategy development, • Participates in creating and managing budgets and forecasts, • Achieve the annual business plan for revenue, margin and profitability, • Responsible for full profit and loss for freight forwarding for North America, including Accounts Receivables., • Closely observe the strategic moves of the competitors, • Utilize organization’s operations and resources efficiently while achieving the successful deepening of relationships with key accounts, extend customer relationships into new segments and improving efficiencies where necessary to succeed, • Provide structure, establish metrics and directly manage LOGISTEED’S processes, • Develop and execute a strategy that will focus on increasing revenue and profits, optimizing market share and providing consistent, high-level customer satisfaction, • Create and deliver world class service to our clients integrating the success and strengths of LOGISTEED’S legacy companies, • Strict adherence, for yourself as well as your team, to corporate compliance as well as international trade rules and regulations such as C-TPAT, TSA, etc. while ensuring your team is equally responsible, as well as our customers, • Manage, direct and motivate team members, • Manage performance reviews and professional development plans for team to create a culture that values recruiting, training, and retaining top performers and effectively manages sub-par performers, • Ensure that all team members are looking for ways to systematize the business to increase efficiency, • Responsible for day-to-day management of Freight Forwarding team and leadership in order to achieve personal development and departmental goals making it possible to not just meet, but exceed company objectives, • Provide leadership, clear vision and focus on priorities to direct reports. Demonstrate tangible growth of customer base, retention of existing customers and identification of new business opportunities, • Responsible for reporting to the Japanese corporate offices, as well as North American leadership, • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as dictated by the needs of the position, • Ability to function and produce under a high level of pressure, • Any other duties as determined by executive or Japanese leadership, • Business Acumen, • Customer / Client Focus, • Leadership, • Strategic Thinking, • Problem Solving/Analysis, • Financial Management, • People Management, • Project Management, • Presentation Skills, • Results Driven, • Communication Proficiency, • Personal Effectiveness/Credibility, • Multi-tasking, • Ensure a culture and work environment in line with the company’s core value of respect Previous Work Experience • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in freight forwarding and/or logistics industry that includes working in multiple business disciplines (finance, distribution, HR, IT, etc.), • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance/accounting, human resources/law, or other business-related discipline (or equivalent work experience), • Master’s Degree preferred, • A hands-on individual who is accustomed to calling on C-level and VP-level decision makers, • Proven strong business acumen, • Someone who is experienced in negotiating deals involving complex and/or customized logistics or supply chain solutions, • Proficient in Microsoft applications, • Fluency in English, • Japanese bi-lingual desirable, • Must pass drug and criminal background checkAdditional Eligibility Qualifications, • Ability to read, analyze and interpret critical documents, • Ability to respond effectively to inquiries or complaints, • Ability to read, analyze and interpret data driven metrics, • Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to the board and outsidersWork Authorization/Security Clearance (if applicable), • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. WORK ENVIRONMENT Ninety percent of the work time will be spent in an office setting where the environment is climate controlled. Ten percent of work time may be spent in various warehouse or other locations where the environment is not climate controlled (hot and cold seasonally).
