Job DescriptionSalary: Dependent on Experience (DOE) ZTEX Construction is a heavy civil contractor specializing in earthwork, concrete, asphalt paving, underground utilities and overall project management. We are an El Paso born and raised company, and we are currently looking for Diesel Mechanics mid-level experience. The role is ideal for a motivated professional who takes pride in quality, workmanship, diagnosing and solving complex mechanical issues. A Diesel Mechanic under direction, inspects, repairs, and maintains, diesel-powered vehicles and heavy equipment. Focusing on preventive maintenance and repairs of engines, transmissions, brakes, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and diesel systems, on heavy fleet trucks. Responsibilities This list of Essential Duties and Responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be supplemented. • Diagnoses, adjusts, repairs and services a variety of diesel vehicles, heavy trucks and trailers., • Troubleshoots hydraulic and electrical problems., • Performs diagnostic evaluation of equipment by means of computer software., • Performs routine preventative maintenance work such as changing oils, lubrications, and inspections., • Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests, identifying worn and damaged parts., • Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion; completing winterization procedures., • Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; completes machine shop operations; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units., • Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives, adjusting controls and systems., • Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards., • Maintains vehicle records by annotating services and repairs., • Performs data entry duties related to repair activities such as task/time accounting, parts use and equipment status, documents mechanical issue diagnosis and repairs., • Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of diesel vehicles and engines., • Knowledge of the principles of internal combustion and diesel engine operation., • Knowledge of safety issues in the use of tools, equipment, and supplies used in repair of Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment associated with the servicing of vehicles and motorized equipment., • Ability to diagnose and repair electronic control systems. Qualifications • Minimum 2 years' experience as heavy duty/diesel mechanic required., • High school graduation or other equivalent (i.e., General Educational Development (GED), foreign equivalency, etc.), • Associate degree in automotive and diesel mechanic preferred or Certification- Mechanic Training Physical Requirements & Working Conditions Physical Requirements: Medium/heavy - exert force of 50-100 lbs., occasionally; 25-50 lbs., frequently; or 10-20 lbs., constantly. Frequent talking, hearing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, balancing, crouching, reaching, handling, repetitive fine motor activities, and feeling. Hearing and speech to communicate in person, via video conference and computers, or over the telephone. Mobility to work in a typical mechanic shop and use of mechanical equipment. Stamina to remain standing/stooping and maintain concentration for an extended period. Vision: Frequent near acuity, depth perception, and color vision. Environmental Conditions: Varies from a climate-controlled office setting to work in an open garage with temperatures ranging from mild/moderate to extreme cold/heat. Exposure to noise levels ranging from moderate to loud for occasional to frequent time periods.
