Paris
Paris / Remote Fractional — approximately 1 day per week initially Strong hands-on knowledge of Belgian and French financial, accounting and business infrastructure is essential, with particular expertise in Belgium. Hors du Commun is currently structured from Belgium and is progressively developing its operations in France, so the role requires someone who can confidently navigate and connect both systems. You should understand, in practice: • Belgian and French accounting frameworks, • VAT and cross-border EU invoicing, • corporate structures, • payroll and social charges, • cash-flow and financial reporting, • tax/compliance coordination, • Belgium–France operational transitions, • working with accountants, legal advisors and external specialists in both countries Experience with cross-border European structures, particularly Belgium–France, is highly valued. Hors du Commun is looking for a Finance & Operations Lead to help build the financial and operational infrastructure behind our next stage of growth. We are currently a small, fast-growing creative company operating across Studio, Experiences and Fashion. As the business grows, we want to move from founder-led manual processes toward a financial and operational system that gives us a clear, real-time understanding of the company. We are looking for someone analytical, commercially sharp and extremely structured — and importantly, someone who is comfortable telling us no when the numbers do not make sense. Your first mission Help us build the HDC operating system. Today, several parts of the company are still managed manually. We want to progressively connect and structure systems such as: Salesforce → sales & pipeline Odoo → invoicing, expenses, project profitability & finance Banking → cash visibility Accounting → reporting & compliance The objective is not simply to produce monthly financial reports. We want to be able to understand at any moment: • how much cash we have;, • what is expected to come in;, • what needs to be paid;, • which projects are actually profitable;, • how much each project is costing us;, • what our fixed monthly burn is;, • what our forecast looks like;, • how much we can safely invest;, • whether we can afford the next hire;, • whether our pricing is sustainable. Responsibilities You will progressively take ownership of: • cash-flow management;, • budgeting and forecasting;, • project profitability;, • financial modelling;, • pricing analysis;, • cost control;, • monthly management reporting;, • revenue forecasting;, • receivables and payment visibility;, • supplier/payment oversight;, • operational dashboards;, • financial KPIs;, • hiring affordability modelling;, • scenario planning;, • recurring company costs;, • improving internal financial processes;, • working with our accountant where necessary. On the Operations side, you will also help: • structure company-wide workflows;, • identify inefficiencies and bottlenecks;, • make sure key processes actually happen;, • establish accountability and ownership;, • improve coordination between Studio, Experiences and Fashion;, • determine what should be automated and what should remain human;, • oversee implementation of tools such as Odoo with specialist technical support where required. You will not necessarily be expected to technically configure every platform yourself. You should, however, be able to design the right system, specify what needs to be built, and ensure that it produces reliable information. Profile We are looking for someone with a strong background in areas such as: • corporate finance;, • business administration;, • strategy;, • operations;, • consulting;, • investment;, • entrepreneurship;, • financial planning & analysis. Experience in a high-growth startup, consultancy, agency or entrepreneurial environment is particularly relevant. A strong academic background from a leading business, finance or engineering institution is a plus — but judgement, intelligence and execution matter more to us than the logo on a diploma. You should be comfortable with numbers, but equally interested in how a company actually operates. Most importantly, you should be intellectually independent. If we are about to make a financially stupid decision, we want you to say so. You are • analytical;, • rigorous;, • commercially minded;, • extremely organised;, • direct but constructive;, • comfortable challenging founders;, • proactive;, • trustworthy;, • curious;, • ambitious;, • obsessed with making systems clearer and better. Professional English is essential. French / knowledge of the French business environment is a strong plus. Evolution The collaboration would begin on a fractional basis, initially approximately one day per week. As Hors du Commun grows, this role could naturally evolve toward: Head of Finance & Operations and potentially later CFO / COO-level responsibility. About Hors du Commun We are building Hors du Commun with a simple belief: small teams can build very big things when the right people are around the table. The environment is entrepreneurial, ambitious and hands-on. Everyone has ownership. Everyone contributes beyond a narrow job description. And as an early member of the team, you would have significant influence over how the company is built.
