Role Title: Field Maintenance Engineer Location: Mobile Reports To: Maintenance Manager Role Purpose: To attend assigned visits to customer premises and perform all necessary system maintenance or fault diagnostics and repair. Ensuring system serviceability testing and paperwork is completed after assigned job is finished. Role Accountabilities: 1. Maintenance Visit Planning. On receipt of assigned work schedule ensuring that all necessary equipment and service kits to conduct the assigned work is on works van and for liaising with the office for additional supplies where necessary. 2. Customer Service. Maintaining a professional relationship with customers and their staff and for being accountable for own conduct as a representative of Fireworks 3. Maintenance Work. Performing all maintenance and repair work thoroughly, in a safe manner, and in accordance with all laid down service instructions. Ensuring system items removed from customer premises are labelled as necessary to identify the part and issue, and returned to Fireworks office. 4. Uniform. As a Fireworks representative, maintaining a professional standard of dress, ensuring Fireworks branded clothing is worn at all times together with other appropriate PPE as necessary. 5. Paperwork. Ensuring all paperwork, whether in hard copy or required to be completed via an issued tablet/iPad, in respect of each job is completed properly and is received by the Fireworks office in a timely manner and in good condition. 6. Call Out Duties. Report all call-outs to the Office as soon as possible. During nominated call out periods ensure phone is kept on and is responded to in a timely fashion. On receipt of call out schedule keep nominated call out dates free of holiday and other commitments and notify the office immediately of any perceived conflicts. 7. Service Vehicle. Maintaining allocated service vehicle in a good condition and for performing all daily and weekly checks, and for ensuring completed check sheets are received by the Fireworks office in a timely manner and in good condition. To drive responsibly at all times and in compliance with all legal road requirements. Notify the office immediately if for any reason you are unfit to drive. 8. Equipment. Ensuring that all work equipment is maintained, including: Ladder checks and tags, PAT testing, Calibrations, and associated pre-use checks. 9. Purchasing. Ensuring that all purchases made in respect of the assigned company credit card is wholly necessary and for the sole use of work related purchasing. Maintaining credit card sheets and receipts and any other paperwork which may be required by the finance dept. 10. Training and Development. Complete all assigned training courses within timeframe allocated. You are responsible for ensuring that all CSCS cards, similar scheme or competency cards that you are required to hold are maintained. 11. Communication. Maintain good communications with colleagues, responding in a timely manner to emails, text messages or phone calls and ensuring relevant information is passed on quickly. 12. Workshop / Stores / Yard. Only using workshop equipment that individual is trained and authorised to use and ensuring that all correct PPE is worn when operating equipment. Ensuring that other staff are informed of any hazards while equipment is being operated and for performing pre-use equipment checks. Ensuring that work areas are left clean and tidy. Notifying stores person of all stock items that have been taken and for what purpose. 13. Quality, Health, Safety, Welfare and the Environment (QHSE). Observe all company QHSE policies, procedures and other instructions and ensure all concerns observed or reported are submitted to the QHSE Compliance department. Notify the office without delay of any incidents, near misses or H&S concerns. 14. Other duties as necessary and directed to meet the needs of the company. Knowledge, Skills and Experience (KSE) Water mist suppression systems – Good knowledge of water mist fire suppression systems and the wider fire prevention sector. Technical – Experience in similar field engineer roles. Demonstrates the technical competence and awareness required to pass manufacturer courses on the equipment to be maintained and repaired, or has relevant technical qualifications for work being performed. Electrical engineers should be qualified to at least Level 3 and ideally hold 17th Edition. Customer focus – Ability to communicate directly with customers and maintain good relationships. Information Technology – Proficient in the use of mobile technologies. E.g. Smart phones, Tablets. Construction Scheme (CSCS) Card – Have passed, or able to pass the CSCS Health & Safety Test. Holds a relevant CSCS or related scheme competency card. Communication/Relationships Customers – Responding to ad hoc requests for Information, Advice and Guidance. Colleagues – Maintaining good working relationships, ensuring colleagues are kept informed of all matters that may impact on ability to meet own duties, or for others to meet theirs. Working as part of the Fireworks Team. Negotiation for help as required. Supporting colleagues who may need assistance. Management – Providing and receiving information in relation to the job function. Provision of information as required. Special Conditions and Other Requirements Driving Licence Able to work and stay away from home and, if necessary, to do so at short notice when needed. Summary of Role You will oversee technical compliance, quality assurance, and standards conformance for fire sprinkler system servicing, maintenance, and inspection operations. This role ensures service activities comply with British Standards (for maintenance requirements, residential systems maintenance and wet & dry fire-fighting mains) along with manufacturer specifications, and insurer requirements. You will ensure system reliability and regulatory compliance throughout the operational life of installations. What you will be doing Ensure all maintenance activities comply with BS EN 12845, TB203, BS 9251, LPC rules, and BAFSA guidance. Verify completion of weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual inspection schedules. Validate full-system inspections covering sprinklers, pipes, valves, pumps, and alarm devices. Maintain current knowledge of British Standards and regulatory requirement. Develop and implement quality control protocols, inspection checklists, and documentation standards. Review and assess defect reports, categorizing by severity (critical/major/minor). Provide technical guidance on remediation methods ensuring standards compliance. Oversee impairment procedures when systems are taken out of operational status. Identify installations with deteriorating conditions and develop risk mitigation strategies. Escalate critical deficiencies to clients with clear risk assessments. Maintain comprehensive service records per BS EN 12845 Section 20 and insurance requirements. Oversee preparation of detailed service reports and annual inspection certifications. Coordinate with LPCB and certification bodies during surveillance visits. Maintain BAFSA Third Party Certificated Service Company registration compliance. Provide expert technical guidance to field service engineers on complex systems. Support troubleshooting for system malfunctions and component failures. Communicate technical findings and compliance risks clearly to clients. Educate clients on maintenance obligations under relevant standards. Track quality metrics including defect rates, repeat service calls, and compliance rates. Analyse service data to identify component failure trends and reliability issues. Conduct audit inspections of completed service work. Drive continuous improvement through process optimisation and industry benchmarking. What we will need from you HNC/HND in Mechanical/Building Services Engineering, Fire Engineering, or equivalent (essential). Comprehensive experience within the fire sprinkler industry (installation, commissioning, maintenance) (essential). Proven experience in a supervisory or quality assurance roles with technical compliance responsibility and leadership skills to guide and mentor service engineers (essential). BAFSA registered engineer (essential). Professional membership (IFE/IFSM preferred). CSCS certification and full UK driving license (essential). Comprehensive knowledge of BS EN 12845 (Section 20), TB203, and BS 9251 (essential) Understanding of sprinkler system components from major manufacturers (Tyco, Viking, Victaulic, Reliable) (essential). Proficiency in hydraulic principles, pump systems, control equipment, and water supply arrangements (essential). Experience with defect diagnosis, troubleshooting, and remedial specification (essential) Ability to interpret as-built drawings, hydraulic calculations, and system schematics (essential) Current regulatory knowledge covering British Standards, insurer requirements (LPC, FM Global), and Fire Safety Order obligations (essential) Analytical capabilities for defect analysis, risk assessment, and trend analysis (essential) Clear technical report writing and ability to communicate complex issues to varied audiences (essential).
