About the opportunity: Sitting within Technology, Intelligence, Security and Crisis Management (ISC) is the overarching function which delivers geo-political insight, security risk management and crisis management to all bp businesses. The security function works to risk assess identified security threats and manage security barriers to enable bp’s business activity and ensure it can be conducted safely and securely, wherever the opportunities arise. The Global Security Manager’s (GSM) role exists to lead a team delivering risk management expertise and specialist security advice to all relevant businesses within the Customers and Products (C&P) business units in order to ensure security is properly implemented in accordance with bp’s requirements. Within bp, this role is viewed as the senior level of leadership and as such the GSM, reporting to and guided by the VP Security/Chief Security Officer, is accountable for the delivery of Security Risk Management services of the highest quality, ensuring that threats to company personnel, assets and operations/activities within the region are properly identified, evaluated and managed in a timely manner. The C&P business area comprises global Mobility and Convenience, bp pulse, Castrol, Aviation and Biofuels growth, where high levels of threat and significant levels of operating risk are managed as a matter of course. The role is office-based with some regional and international travel. The role can be based in the UK or in the US offices, and there is some flexibility with the US locations. In this role, as the successful candidate, you will maintain the capability of the broader team, contributing to the delivery of a world-class security function. In addition to normal security duties across the region, as the GSM you will be an integral part of the Security Leadership Team and there will be opportunities to lead on projects and over see additional workstreams which have a regional and global-level remit. You will oversee a stakeholder engagement plan, ensuring that all levels of leadership are aware of ISC and security services and act as the main point of contact for business leadership. ISC delivers security using a threat-driven, risk-based approach, enabling bp priorities by protecting our people, assets and operations. For success in this role, you will: * Lead security within a large, diverse and strategically important set of business units. * Manage a large team to deliver deep technical expertise in the production of proportionate security solutions for a wide range of complex businesses. * Continually build consensus across multiple cultures and languages. * Embed consistent and systematic security management processes through the use of traditional and technical risk management tools and processes. * Effectively manage operating risk from tactical, on the ground delivery to operational and strategic guidance, advice and support. * Be clear, concise and persuasive in your written & verbal communication. * As a Senior Level Leader in the Company, mentor, support and develop others in the business security function and in ISC. * Consider the broader impact of your actions on colleagues, community and environment. * Demonstrate drive, self-direction, dynamism and energy together with strong interpersonal skills. About the role: In more detail, some of your key job accountabilities will be: * Be accountable for the delivery of security risk management across the relevant business units in coordination with other elements of ISC, risk owners and budget holders. * Coordinate with Regional Security Managers (RSMs) and their teams to ensure alignment and deconfliction on functional activity and business engagement. * Manage the full range of security risk including those at group level. * Assume responsibility for ensuring that the Unified Risk Picture (ISC’s bespoke software for managing country and asset level risk) is maintained. * Manage a large, geographically dispersed team of security professionals covering all businesses in the region, including some with global roles. * Provide management oversight and reporting of security issues which occur across regions which may be of importance or relevance to bp operations. Provide detailed technical security advice to ensure the required barrier strength is maintained and risk is mitigated in accordance with risk appetite. * Work with teams delivering projects in the relevant businesses and ensure the appropriate bp security input and oversight. * Consolidate, prepare and submit risk registers and risk management plans ensuring that Risk Notification and Plan Endorsement (RNPE) forms for emerging security risks are properly dealt with covering narratives, trends, major incidents. * Conduct security reviews to ensure the delivery of security measures in accordance with approved security risk management plans. * Provide regular assessment/update to key partners including senior business leaders and their leadership teams where appropriate to update on political events and security risk and their impact on the security environment. * Provide leadership and management of the Business Security Representatives (BSR). * Facilitate information exchange with all partners within ISC and the business in relation to security threats. In particular, facilitate interaction with threat intelligence analysts and advisors and other sources of information in order to develop a detailed understanding of the threat landscape. * Act as the security representative on emergency or crisis response teams in the event of activation. * Ensure compliance with the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights (VPSHR). * Oversee and ensure compliance with procurement and supply chain management (PSCM) standards on security services contracts. * Act as point of contact on developing security standards and minimum baseline conditions. * Act as point of contact for Project Contractors’ organizations in addressing various security issues, ensuring compliance with bp Security guides, procedures and contractual requirements and with high level performance and delivery of services. * Ensure that appropriate security awareness training needs are identified and the relevant training delivered across multiple business streams. * Network with those responsible for security across bp on key issues and share best methodologies. Liaise with Digital Security (DS), Group Audit, HSE&C, Legal, People, Culture and Communications (PC&C), External Affairs, PSCM and other functions on areas of shared risk. * Provide advice and support to management in the event of a security emergency and volatile periods such as civil unrest, terrorist attacks and kidnap. Provide pre-emptive advice on risk reduction strategies for predicted periods of concern or during major events that could disrupt business. * Work collaboratively and inclusively with other internal partners, in particular, communications, external affairs, community relations and HSE&C. * Travel security risk management. * Establish and maintain and manage close relationships with Public security forces. Establish proactive communications and information exchange. About you: Essential Education: * University degree or comparable, relevant professional experience. Essential Experience and Job Requirements: * Extensive experience in a security role with responsibility for security for multiple businesses across a region, including in higher risk areas and in particular in the Asia Pacific region. * Extensive experience managing large and diverse teams, dispersed across a wide region. * Extensive expertise in security risk management and conducting security risk assessments. * Experienced and comfortable participating in site and national level leadership team meetings. * Be able to discuss in detail security risk assessment and the use of risk management software. * Strong and proven knowledge of security strategy and implementing physical security practices and technical security measures to include CCTV, access control and management/monitoring systems. * Extensive experience in developing policies, protocols, and exercising training to ensure compliance and preparedness. * Experience working with local and national enforcement agencies; experience with international agencies preferred. * Experience of interacting with senior level site managers and successfully influencing security discussions. * Experience with the creation of budgets, business reasons to support expenditure, & capital project management. * Strong communication skills It would also be desirable that you have: * Membership of an appropriate professional security body (e.g. The Security Institute or ASIS). * Experience of conducting investigations, preferably into fraud or misconduct issues.
