About the Company TMS Grid Ltd is a growing renewable energy and power infrastructure business delivering electrical infrastructure and grid connection projects across the UK. Our projects include HV/LV infrastructure, grid connections, solar, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and associated electrical infrastructure. About the Role As Design Manager, you will manage the design process from project commencement through to construction and completion, ensuring design information is properly coordinated, reviewed, approved and available to support delivery. Responsibilities • Manage and coordinate design delivery across allocated projects., • Develop and maintain design programmes, deliverables, registers and approval processes., • Coordinate internal and external designers, engineers, consultants, suppliers and subcontractors., • Ensure design information is complete, coordinated, approved and suitable for construction., • Identify design clashes, gaps, risks and potential construction issues early and ensure they are addressed., • Coordinate electrical, civil, structural and other design disciplines where required., • Manage technical queries, design changes and design interfaces throughout the project lifecycle., • Work closely with Project Managers and Construction teams to ensure design supports programme, buildability, quality, safety and cost., • Work with Procurement/Buying to ensure equipment selections, specifications, technical submissions and supplier information align with the approved design and project programme., • Support the management of design changes arising during construction., • Coordinate as-built information and design documentation for project handover., • Ensure appropriate design reviews, technical assurance and CDM requirements are addressed by competent persons., • Maintain effective design document control and support TMS Grid's ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems., • Identify and escalate design risks, delays and issues that could affect project delivery., • Support continuous improvement of TMS Grid's design management processes. Qualifications • A relevant technical or engineering qualification is desirable, such as:, • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineering or a related discipline., • Equivalent technical qualification combined with relevant industry experience will also be considered., • Professional membership of an appropriate engineering institution, such as IET, ICE or CIBSE, would be advantageous., • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status would be advantageous but is not essential where relevant experience and technical competence can be demonstrated. Required Skills • Proven experience as a Design Manager, Design Lead, Senior Design Engineer or similar., • Experience managing design delivery within construction, infrastructure, engineering, utilities or energy., • Strong understanding of design coordination and technical interfaces., • Ability to interpret and review technical drawings, specifications and engineering information., • Experience managing design programmes, deliverables and approvals., • Good understanding of construction methodology and buildability., • Strong communication, organisation and stakeholder management skills., • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities., • Good commercial and programme awareness., • Ability to work independently, take ownership and make informed decisions., • Willingness to travel to project sites, client meetings and other locations as required. Preferred Skills • Experience in one or more of the following would be highly desirable:, • HV/LV electrical infrastructure., • Grid connections., • ICP/EPC projects., • Solar PV., • Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)., • Substations and associated electrical infrastructure., • Protection and control systems., • DNO/IDNO requirements., • National Grid or other network stakeholder experience., • NEC or FIDIC contracts., • CDM requirements., • Managing external engineering consultancies and specialist designers. Pay range and compensation package Salary: £60,000+ per annum, depending on experience.
