Job DescriptionMid-Level Litigation Associate Midtown Manhattan, New York, NY $250K-$280K 5-7 Years Experience Hybrid Schedule | 1,850 Billable Hours Position Overview We are seeking a Mid-Level Litigation Associate to join our New York litigation team. The ideal candidate will manage a diverse caseload of civil and commercial disputes in both New York State and federal courts, support all phases of litigation from intake through trial, and work closely with partners and clients to achieve strategic outcomes. This role requires strong legal research and writing skills, hands-on experience with discovery and eDiscovery, and demonstrated courtroom advocacy and motion practice capabilities. Key Responsibilities • Manage a docket of civil and commercial litigation matters in New York State and federal courts, including calendaring and deadline tracking., • Conduct comprehensive legal research and draft persuasive memoranda, briefs, motions, and pleadings., • Draft and respond to complaints, answers, and other case-initiating and responsive documents., • Lead and coordinate discovery efforts, including drafting discovery requests and responses, managing document productions, and supervising eDiscovery workflows (Relativity, Concordance, etc.)., • Supervise and participate in document review and privilege review, ensuring accuracy and responsiveness., • Prepare for and take depositions; prepare witnesses and support defendants and clients in testimony., • Assist with trial preparation and courtroom advocacy, including drafting trial briefs, preparing exhibits and witness outlines, and presenting oral argument where appropriate., • Handle motion practice, including researching and drafting dispositive and non-dispositive motions, oppositions, and replies., • Provide strategic client counseling and participate in settlement negotiations and alternative dispute resolution processes., • Coordinate with partners, associates, paralegals, and vendors to ensure efficient case management and meet deadlines., • Manage docket and calendaring responsibilities using established practice management systems; ensure timely and accurate timekeeping and billing entries., • Use litigation tools and databases (Westlaw, LexisNexis, PACER) to support case strategy and factual development., • Maintain professional relationships with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel; represent the firm in court appearances and administrative hearings when required., • Mentor junior associates and paralegals on litigation best practices, document management, and eDiscovery processes. Qualifications • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school., • Admission to the New York State Bar required; admission to the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York preferred., • 3-6 years of litigation experience with a focus on civil and commercial litigation in New York State and federal courts., • Proven experience in legal research, legal writing, brief writing, motion practice, and pleading drafting., • Hands-on experience with discovery, eDiscovery workflows, and tools such as Relativity and Concordance; experience supervising document review and performing privilege review., • Trial preparation and courtroom experience, including depositions, witness preparation, and oral argument., • Strong familiarity with the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and New York Civil Practice procedures; solid understanding of the Rules of Evidence., • Proficiency with legal research platforms (Westlaw, LexisNexis), PACER, and case/docket management systems., • Experience with document management systems (iManage, NetDocuments), Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Office., • Demonstrated client counseling skills and experience with settlement negotiation and alternative dispute resolution., • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment., • Prior experience with legal billing and timekeeping systems and a commitment to accurate billing practices., • Strong interpersonal skills, a collaborative attitude, and the ability to mentor junior team members.
