Job DescriptionMaintenance Shop Manager – Forklifts & Heavy EquipmentJob Description We are seeking an experienced 1st Shift Maintenance Shop Manager to lead day-to-day shop operations and supervise a unionized team of mechanics responsible for maintaining forklifts and heavy shop equipment. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with strong people leadership and operational oversight. The ideal candidate brings deep forklift mechanical knowledge, experience managing technicians in a union environment, and the ability to drive productivity, safety, and accountability within the shop. This position plays a critical role in supporting site growth, developing technicians, and ensuring equipment uptime through effective planning and use of an ERP system. Key Responsibilities • Oversee daily maintenance shop operations, scheduling, and workload distribution, • Supervise and support a team of 5 union mechanics, ensuring compliance with labor agreements, • Provide hands-on technical guidance, troubleshooting, and repair support as needed, • Train, coach, and mentor technicians to improve skill sets and performance, • Ensure timely completion of work orders using the ERP system, • Promote a safe, organized, and efficient shop environment, • Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to positive shop culture, • Act as the primary point of contact for maintenance-related site operationsRequired Qualifications & Skills, • Non-negotiable: Strong forklift mechanical and repair experience, • Proven leadership or supervisory experience in a maintenance or shop setting, • Ability to diagnose and repair heavy equipment, including:, • Hydraulics, • Electrical systems, • Mechanical components, • Diesel engines, • Experience delegating work, prioritizing tasks, and managing shop workflow, • Comfortable using ERP systems and maintenance management software, • Strong communication skills with the ability to lead within a union environmentPreferred Qualifications, • Prior experience managing maintenance teams in a unionized workforce, • Exposure to mixed fleets (older equipment through brand-new models), • Shop environment with equipment ranging from early 1990s models to brand-new units, • 9-bay shop supporting approximately 270 pieces of equipment, • Team of 5 union mechanics, • Location: Tioga Marine Terminal (PhilaPort) This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Philadelphia, PA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
