Job DescriptionJob Title: Material HandlerJob Description This steel facility supplies vendors with steel beams, rebar, stairways, glass doors, windows, and more to general contractors for building installation. The Material Handler is responsible for maintaining inventory, locating material for production orders, and preparing finished stock for shipment. Key responsibilities include maintaining inventory by identifying, labeling, and placing materials and supplies in stock, recording the location of inventory, locating materials and supplies by pulling and verifying materials and supplies listed on production orders, and preparing finished stock for shipment by identifying, pulling, packing, crating, loading, and securing the product. The role also involves learning to operate an overhead crane indoors, accurately reading a tape measure, and preparing rebar and steel for various departments. Responsibilities • Maintain inventory by identifying, labeling, and placing materials and supplies in stock., • Record the location of inventory accurately., • Locate materials and supplies by pulling and verifying materials and supplies listed on production orders., • Prepare finished stock for shipment by identifying, pulling, packing, crating, loading, and securing the product., • Document product shipment by recording units shipped., • Operate an overhead crane indoors., • Accurately read a tape measure., • Prepare rebar and steel for various departments., • Maintain material-handling equipment by completing pre-use inspections and making operator repairs., • Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed., • Participate in ordering or purchasing standard stock items by recommending additions or deletions to standard stock items or ordering replenishments within established procedures and limits.Essential Skills, • 1+ years of inventory management experience., • 2 years of material handler, warehouse, industrial forklift, crane operation, or construction yard experience., • 2 years of experience reading work orders to pull parts., • 2+ years of experience reading a tape measure to ensure the parts pulled are the correct length., • Ability to walk and stand on feet for extended periods., • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 75 lbs., • Ability to crawl on hands and knees, climb a ladder, and work long hours., • Experience working indoors and outdoors year-round, subject to all weather conditions, including extreme cold and heat.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience with parts processing, steel warehouse, inventory control, blueprints, and crane operation.
