Job Description Job Title: Sheet Metal Mechanic / Sheet Metal Technician Job Description This role is responsible for laying out, fabricating, assembling, installing, modifying, and repairing sheet metal products and HVAC components on commercial and industrial jobsites. You will work from blueprints and shop drawings to produce high-quality ductwork and related systems, using a wide range of hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment. The position focuses on the installation of air-cooled DX, condenser-water, and chilled-water systems, supporting both large and complex projects as well as projects with accelerated schedules. Responsibilities • Install, fabricate, and repair sheet metal ductwork, HVAC components, hangers, fittings, and related systems in accordance with blueprints, specifications, and industry standards., • Read and interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, shop drawings, sketches, and product specifications to determine layout, sequence of work, and methods of fabrication and installation., • Lay out and mark dimensions, cut lines, and reference points on materials using templates, measuring tools, gauges, and squares to ensure accurate fabrication., • Select appropriate gauge and type of sheet metal, including galvanized steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, based on project and specification requirements., • Set up and operate fabrication equipment such as shears, brakes, presses, forming rolls, and routers to cut, bend, and shape sheet metal materials., • Use hand and power tools, including saws, grinders, drills, and routers, to perform precise cutting, drilling, and finishing operations in a safe and efficient manner., • Trim, file, grind, deburr, and smooth edges and surfaces to prepare components for assembly and installation., • Assemble components by welding, soldering, riveting, screwing, fastening, and sealing to create complete ductwork systems and sheet metal assemblies., • Install HVAC ductwork and associated components on commercial and industrial projects, ensuring proper alignment, support, sealing, and system performance., • Inspect in-process assemblies and completed installations to confirm conformance with drawings, specifications, and quality standards., • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times in compliance with OSHA regulations and site-specific safety requirements., • Follow jobsite safety practices, including the proper use of personal protective equipment and adherence to all safety procedures., • Coordinate with foremen, project managers, and other trades on site to schedule work, resolve installation issues, and support efficient project completion., • Support ground-up new construction projects by installing sheet metal systems in alignment with project timelines and construction sequencing., • Travel to and from jobsites reliably and report on time to assigned locations across the metro area as project needs require. Essential Skills • 1+ years of hands-on experience as a sheet metal technician, mechanic, or installer in a commercial or industrial setting; 3+ years of experience typically required to work at mechanic level and 1+ year to work at helper level., • Demonstrated experience with sheet metal installation, fabrication, and ductwork installation on commercial or industrial projects., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, and shop drawings accurately., • Proficiency in layout and measurement using templates, gauges, takeoffs, and standard measuring tools., • Hands-on experience with hand tools and power tools used in sheet metal work, including saws, grinders, drills, and routers., • Ability to set up and operate sheet metal fabrication equipment such as shears, brakes, presses, and forming rolls., • Knowledge of HVAC ductwork installation practices and standard industry fabrication methods., • Understanding of sheet metal materials and their applications, including galvanized steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and spiral duct., • Ability to perform basic assembly techniques such as riveting, fastening, and sealing joints., • Familiarity with basic welding, brazing, and soldering techniques for light fabrication and repair work., • Knowledge of quality control and inspection practices to verify that work meets specifications and standards., • Working knowledge of jobsite safety practices and OSHA compliance requirements., • Current OSHA 10 certification., • Reliable transportation and the ability to travel to jobsites across the DFW metro area., • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work at heights, and stand, kneel, bend, and move for extended periods in a construction environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Completion of a sheet metal apprenticeship program or equivalent trade school education in sheet metal, HVAC, or a closely related field., • OSHA 30 certification., • Experience with light welding, brazing, and soldering in a construction or fabrication environment., • Certifications to operate forklifts, scissor lifts, or boom lifts., • Experience working on ground-up commercial construction projects., • Experience working on specialized projects such as healthcare facilities, data centers, or industrial sites., • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing clean, accurate, and high-quality installations., • Ability to communicate clearly with foremen, project managers, and other trades to coordinate work and resolve field issues., • Proven reliability, punctuality, and ability to work productively under schedule-driven project timelines. The environment is fast-paced and schedule-driven, with frequent coordination among multiple trades. You will work both indoors and outdoors, at various heights, and in areas that may be noisy, dusty, or exposed to changing weather conditions typical of construction sites. Standard construction attire and appropriate personal protective equipment are required at all times. The role involves regular use of hand and power tools, sheet metal fabrication equipment such as shears, brakes, presses, and forming rolls, and may include operating or working around forklifts, scissor lifts, and boom lifts when properly certified. Work hours follow typical construction schedules, with the need to be on site reliably and ready to work throughout the duration of the project. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Worth, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $32.00/hr.
