Job Description Job Title: HVAC Maintenance Technician Job Description The HVAC Maintenance Technician is responsible for the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of facility equipment essential to building operations, including HVAC systems, boilers, chillers, and fans across a multi-building campus. Working under general guidance, this role ensures all systems operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with applicable codes and regulations, while also supporting leadership in the coordination and oversight of contractors. The technician will serve as the primary resource for HVAC maintenance across the plant and will participate in an on-call rotation for emergency support. Responsibilities • Install, operate, maintain, and repair HVAC systems, boilers, chillers, fans, and other facility equipment essential to building operations across the campus., • Perform preventive maintenance and corrective repairs on HVAC, boiler, chiller, and related mechanical and electrical systems to maximize uptime and equipment life., • Service and repair 25-ton and larger equipment, including rooftop units (RTUs), split systems, chillers, variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems, and boilers., • Troubleshoot and resolve issues involving HVAC, boiler systems, electrical components, plumbing, pneumatics, and industrial equipment., • Use electrical troubleshooting skills and PLC troubleshooting methods, including working with Siemens and other control systems, to diagnose and correct system faults., • Read, interpret, and apply information from technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics to plan and execute maintenance and repair activities., • Ensure all work complies with applicable codes, regulations, and safety protocols related to HVAC, boilers, electrical, and plumbing systems., • Utilize building automation systems and advanced computer software, including Microsoft Office, to monitor equipment, document work, and communicate status updates., • Climb and work from outside ladders and at heights to access rooftop HVAC systems and other elevated equipment safely., • Coordinate and support leadership in the management of contractors, including providing technical guidance and ensuring quality and safety standards., • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and parts usage in accordance with internal procedures., • Collaborate effectively with team members and other departments to prioritize work orders and minimize disruption to plant operations., • Communicate clearly in writing and verbally to report issues, document findings, and explain repair recommendations., • Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to after-hours, overnight, or weekend emergencies as needed to support continuous operations. Essential Skills • High school diploma with 5+ years of relevant HVAC maintenance or technician experience., • Current EPA Section 608 Universal Refrigerant Certification., • Proven ability to service and repair 25-ton and larger HVAC equipment, including rooftop units (RTUs), split systems, chillers, VRF systems, and boilers., • Strong knowledge of boiler systems, HVAC systems, electrical systems, and plumbing., • Advanced knowledge of applicable codes and regulations related to HVAC, boiler, electrical, and plumbing operations., • Demonstrated proficiency in electrical troubleshooting and reading electrical schematics., • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics accurately., • Experience with preventive maintenance programs in an industrial or plant environment., • Proficiency with PLC troubleshooting, including working with Siemens or similar control systems., • Advanced computer skills, including use of building automation systems and Microsoft Office applications., • Ability to work comfortably at heights and use outside ladders to access rooftop HVAC systems., • Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations in the HVAC industry and commitment to safe work practices., • Strong written and oral communication skills with a basic understanding of English, both written and spoken., • Ability to interact and collaborate effectively with others in a team environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Completion of advanced technical training beyond high school related to HVAC, electrical, or mechanical systems., • Experience working in an industrial or chemical plant environment., • Familiarity with pneumatics and industrial systems in a plant setting., • Ability to interpret and work from detailed schematics for complex systems., • Experience supporting or coordinating work with external contractors., • Strong troubleshooting mindset and ability to diagnose complex system issues independently., • Organizational skills to manage multiple work orders and maintenance tasks efficiently. Work Environment This position is based on a first-shift schedule, typically 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with the expectation of being open to on-call responsibilities for potential overnight or weekend emergencies. The role is located within an agricultural chemical mixing plant environment that includes several plant buildings on a shared campus, along with a brand-new warehouse and an on-site workout facility. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, including on rooftops and at heights using ladders to access HVAC equipment. The environment is industrial and fast-paced, with exposure to mechanical equipment, noise, and varying temperatures. Standard work attire suitable for an industrial plant and safe work practices, including appropriate personal protective equipment as required, will be expected.
