Program Description: The SolidWorks Sheet Metal Designer is responsible for designing and developing sheet metal components, assemblies, and fabrication drawings for manufacturing and production. This role works closely with engineering, production, fabrication, and project management teams to create accurate 3D models, flat patterns, and fabrication documentation while ensuring designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, and meet project specifications and quality standards. Essential Duties & Responsibilities • Design sheet metal parts, assemblies, and fabrication layouts using SOLIDWORKS, • Create detailed manufacturing drawings, flat patterns, assembly drawings, and fabrication documentation, • Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) for fabrication, purchasing, and production, • Review project specifications, engineering requirements, and customer documentation to ensure design accuracy, • Coordinate with engineering, production, fabrication, and project management teams to support manufacturing processes and project timelines, • Optimize designs for manufacturability, material utilization, production efficiency, and cost reduction, • Support prototype development, design revisions, and continuous improvement initiatives, • Verify dimensions, tolerances, bend allowances, hardware requirements, and fabrication details, • Maintain engineering revisions, drawing control, and documentation standards, • Assist with troubleshooting fabrication, fit-up, and assembly issues as needed, • Ensure designs comply with company standards, quality requirements, and manufacturing capabilities, • Support production personnel with technical clarification and fabrication documentation, • Perform other related duties as assigned This role includes, but is not limited to, the responsibilities listed above. Education and/or Experience: Education Experience with sheet metal design and fabrication processes Experience Proficiency in SOLIDWORKS, including sheet metal modeling and assembly tools Advanced Strong understanding of fabrication methods including laser cutting, bending, forming, welding, and assembly Advanced Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents Advanced Knowledge of material properties, tolerances, bend deductions, and manufacturing practices Advanced Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and accuracy Advanced Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously Advanced Strong communication and teamwork skills Language Abilities: Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, memos, and work place policies. Other Abilities: • Experience in CNC manufacturing and fabrication environments, • Knowledge of nesting software, flat pattern development, and production workflows, • Familiarity with ERP systems and BOM management processes, • Experience with weldments, mechanical assemblies, and equipment fabrication, • Understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles, • Experience with DriveWorks design automation software, • Experience supporting prototype development and manufacturing troubleshooting, • 3D Modeling & Mechanical Assembly Design, • Sheet Metal Design & Flat Pattern Generation, • Engineering Drawing Creation & Revision Control, • BOM Development & Documentation, • Manufacturing & Fabrication Support, • CAD File Management & Production Documentation, • Design Optimization & DFM Practices
