Katzenbach School for the Deaf, conducts classroom instruction according to prescribed course of study; is responsible for student educational progress and behavior; and performs other related work as required.RequirementsEducationGraduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree.Experience(Instructor 1): One (1) year of teaching experience in the appropriate field of expertise. Experience as a student teacher and/or as a teaching assistant are acceptable forms of teaching experience. (Instructor 2): Four (4) years of teaching experience in the appropriate field of expertise. Experience as a student teacher and/or as a teaching assistant are acceptable forms of teaching experience.CertificationPossession of a valid Instructional Certificate with endorsements issued by the New Jersey State Board of Examiners.Preferred Education/ExperienceGraduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, Deaf Education, or a related field; New Jersey Deaf/Hard of Hearing or Students with Disabilities certification along with either Elementary Generalist K-5 or an academic content area; and one (1) year of experience in an educational program in a school district or other educational institution working with children ages 3-21 as a teacher or teaching assistant.Special Note (MKSD)Note: The selected candidate must rate at an intermediate level from the Sign Language Proficiency Interview within two years from their start date. The selected candidate will be assessed at or around their two-year anniversary date. If the employee does not rate at an intermediate level according to the Sign Language Proficiency Interview, they will be dismissed.
