Job Description Recreation Aide Reports to the Recreation Supervisor and is an hourly, non-exempt position. Directs trainees in leisure- time recreation/non-vocational activities and leadership programs. Demonstrates on-going commitment to preparing young people for the workforce by modeling, mentoring, and monitoring excellence in the eight Career Success Standards of: workplace relations and ethics; information management; communications; multicultural awareness; personal growth and development; career and personal planning; interpersonal skills and independent living. Duties and Responsibilities: • Demonstrates and abides by Covenant Learning Solutions Core Values and operating principles., • Assists in organization and implementation of the recreation/ non-vocational programs and lifelong leisure-learning activities and programs, encouraging trainees' participation., • Develops and operates weekly contests and tournaments., • Assists in center-sponsored trips and events including escorting and chaperoning. At times, may drive the students on trips/events., • Certified to provide swim lessons and swimming certifications for Centers with pools., • Assists with Water Safety programming (videos, swimming certification and swim lessons} and CIS documentation- if applicable., • Coach intramural and/or varsity teams engaged in Center activities., • Instructs trainees in fitness and weight training programs. Including technique, what occurs after, replenish protein/diet, etc., • May provide instructions to trainees in various recreational clubs such as poetry, drama, talent shows, etc., and other creative activities, such as arts and crafts. DC – Arts & Crafts instructor provides instructions on artistic techniques; Music instructor gives lessons on a variety of instruments; Drama everyone provides instruction and guidance., • Mentor students in Recreation Aide Program to help establish life skills., • Ensures that all programs comply with DOL requirements., • Attends required staff training sessions., • Cultivate and maintain a climate on center that is free of harassment, intimidation, bullying and disrespect in order to provide a safe place for staff and students to work and learn., • Clearly communicates and consistently models appropriate CSS and employability skills including personal responsibility and computer fluency., • Maintains accountability of staff, students, and property, adheres to safety practices in all areas of responsibility., • Performs other duties as assigned. Additional Requirements: Knowledge of a variety of recreation/non-vocational activities. Ability to obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid/AED certification. Ability to communicate effectively and relate to the trainee population. Ability to inspire and motivate trainees. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Position requires an ability to operate office equipment. In addition, an individual must be able to interact with team members and maintain an effective working relationship with all facility staff and departments. Job Description YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROFESSIONAL - ART (Hyde Grove Elementary) This position is designed to foster creativity in young people and give them outlets for self-expression. From photography to hip-hop, our arts programs have something that will inspire everyone. The Art Youth Development Professional is part of a team-oriented Club staff dedicated to serving our youth and creating an optimal Club Experience. This position will plan, supervise and implement a variety of high-yield activities and targeted programs within a health and life skills focus. This position is responsible for: ensuring youth development principles are incorporated into art programs and activities; providing guidance and discipline to ensure a safe and positive environment for youth; ensuring the incorporation of character development, age appropriate and gender-specific programs and activities; ensuring that culturally diverse programs are implemented; assisting, as needed, in the planning, implementation, and delivery of activities and programs for youth ages 6 to 18. Visual Arts – Visual art created and judged for its beauty and meaning. It may include painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, collage, mixed media, graphics and architecture. Digital Arts – Two- or three-dimensional visual media that uses computers and other technology as an essential part of the creative process. This may include graphic design, animation, photography, movie making, Claymation, game design, music composition and digital illustration. Performing Arts – Arts that involve public performance, including playing instruments, acting, singing and dancing. This includes performance support roles, such as creating scenery, costumes, lighting and sound manipulation. Applied Arts – Any art form that applies artistic design to functional objects. This includes industrial design, bookmaking, illustration, printmaking, jewelry making, wood working, ceramics, fashion design, culinary arts, creative writing and commercial art. KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities): Prepare Youth for Success This position’s primary responsibilities are: • Planning and implementing a variety of art programs for members of all ages, including National Arts Contests, Drama Matters, Lyrism 101, Music Makers, Media Making, & National Photography Program., • Recruiting and retaining youth for art programs, • Ensure programs, services and activities prepare youth for success, promoting safety of members, quality in programs and appearance of Club at all times. Provide guidance and role modeling to members., • Contribute to the planning and implementation of the strategic plan by:, • Planning and organizing a range of program services and activities for members, such as field trips, program specific activities, guest speakers, field trips, etc., • Initiating new programs with the approval of the Program Director/Unit Director., • Promoting and stimulating program participation., • Ensure quality improvement by monitoring and evaluating program achievement against target goals, recommending modifications that respond to member needs and interests and participating in weekly Club staff meetings., • Ensure a healthy and safe environment, supervising members in program area., • Maintain the cleanliness of program area., • Prepare weekly reports for the Program Director/Unit Director regarding activities, special programs, upcoming events, attendance, and other reports as required., • May participate in additional special programs and/or events., • Evenings/weekend work may be involved., • May be required to drive Club van., • (Requires valid driver’s license & three-year clean driving record) Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with club staff and volunteers, club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel. Reporting to the Director of Operations the Program Manager of Jacksonville Arts and Music School (JAMS) will be a passionate advocate of arts education and leadership training for youth. The JAMS Program Manager will implement the mission of Empowering the creative leaders of tomorrow, by establishing trust, cultivating creativity, and leading development of leadership skills among students and staff daily. Responsibilities Establish Trust • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with students, parents, and community leaders., • Create fun opportunities for parents to engage in JAMS after-school program on a quarterly basis., • Cultivate a positive and restorative culture amongst students, staff, and parents that includes fun, safety, respect, integrity, excellence, teamwork, and innovation., • Develop and distribute regular newsletters and other communication materials that keep parents and staff informed and engaged in JAMS programming., • Assess the needs, interests, characteristics of the youth to develop targeted programs that result in an outcome-driven experience. Cultivate Creativity • Collect and utilize program data to ensure JAMS is operating in an efficient and excellent manner., • Plan and Lead daily activities for JAMS After-school and 6 week summer intensive program in, • alignment with Department of Children and Families and Kids Hope Alliance guidelines., • Develop, maintain, and implement initiatives that support students artistic and leadership development., • Recruit and Increase the instructor candidate poole to address current and future staffing needs., • Work with Program Coordinator and Director of Education in researching and scheduling field trips, exhibits, and various mediums that support increases in student artistic and leadership development., • Implementation of JAMS after school program for 100+ 4th - 12th grade students coinciding with DCPS schedule. Develop Leadership • Lead a culture of fun, safety, respect, integrity, excellence, teamwork and innovation., • Build the JAMS LIFE WAY culture in students, and parents/families., • Assist with quarterly evaluations of Creative Leaders., • Assist the Executive Director and other staff with miscellaneous projects as requested. Working Conditions • Program Manager will work onsite, but the mission of the organization may sometimes take them to non-standard workplaces., • The Program Manager will work a minimum of 40 hours a week, but as many hours as necessary to accomplish the above tasks. The majority of hours will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. during the school year and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. during summer camp. The Program Manager will occasionally be required to work evenings and weekend hours to accommodate activities such as Board and/or Program Assessment Meetings or represent the organization at public events.
