Management will clarify paid and unpaid time for each shift. 1. POSITION SUMMARY The Care Aide plays an essential role in providing a safe, supportive, clean, and welcoming residential environment for the adults served by Thomas-Adams Residential Care Facility. Care Aides provide daily care and supervision, assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), support medication routines within their authorized responsibilities, prepare and serve meals, maintain facility cleanliness, observe and report resident needs, and communicate important information to supervisors and incoming staff. This position requires compassion, patience, reliability, sound judgment, professionalism, and respect for each resident’s dignity, privacy, independence, and personal rights. Care Aides must perform all responsibilities in accordance with their training, assigned duties, Thomas-Adams policies, and applicable licensing requirements. 2. ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES A. Resident Care and Activities of Daily LivingAssist residents with bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, personal hygiene, and other daily routines according to their individual needs and care plans.Provide reminders, encouragement, and hands-on assistance when appropriate and authorized.Promote residents’ independence by encouraging them to complete tasks they can safely perform themselves.Assist residents with maintaining clean clothing, bedding, and personal living spaces.Observe and report changes in residents’ mobility, hygiene, appetite, behavior, mood, or ability to complete daily activities.Respect each resident’s privacy, dignity, preferences, and personal rights.Seek supervisory assistance when a resident’s needs exceed the employee’s training or the facility’s authorized services. B. Medication Assistance and DistributionAssist with medication distribution and residents’ medication routines only as permitted by applicable requirements, resident instructions, facility procedures, and completed training.Follow established medication schedules and required identification, safety, and documentation procedures.Complete medication records accurately and promptly.Immediately report medication refusals, missed doses, discrepancies, missing medications, suspected errors, or possible adverse reactions.Monitor medication supplies as assigned and communicate anticipated refill needs.Maintain medication security and resident confidentiality. C. Cooking, Meal Preparation, and Food ServicePrepare, cook, portion, and serve meals and snacks according to assigned menus and residents’ documented dietary instructions.Assist residents during meals as appropriate to their needs and the employee’s training.Maintain clean and sanitary kitchens, dining areas, food-preparation surfaces, appliances, and utensils.Follow applicable food-handling, storage, temperature-control, and infection-prevention procedures.Check food supplies and promptly report shortages, spoiled items, or equipment concerns.Observe and report significant changes in residents’ food or fluid intake. D. Housekeeping, Laundry, and Facility CleanlinessClean resident rooms, bathrooms, hallways, dining areas, kitchens, and common spaces as assigned.Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, sanitize surfaces, remove trash, and replenish supplies.Assist residents with laundry, bedding, and personal-space upkeep as appropriate.Follow infection-prevention procedures and use cleaning products safely.Promptly address or report spills, unsanitary conditions, pest concerns, and other environmental hazards.Complete assigned cleaning tasks and document their completion when required. E. Resident Observation, Documentation, and ReportingMonitor residents as assigned and remain attentive to changes in their condition or needs.Complete daily logs, resident checks, medication records, incident reports, and other required documentation accurately and on time.Promptly report changes in residents’ behavior, health, functioning, appetite, or personal-care needs.Report injuries, falls, missing residents, suspected abuse or neglect, and other urgent concerns through applicable emergency, mandated-reporting, and facility procedures.Record factual observations rather than assumptions or unsupported conclusions.Protect resident confidentiality and share information only with authorized individuals for legitimate care or operational purposes.Notify the appropriate supervisor when an incident requires further action or follow-up. F. Repairs, Malfunctions, and Environmental SafetyRemain alert to unsafe conditions throughout the facility.Promptly report broken furniture, plumbing leaks, clogged toilets, electrical concerns, heating or cooling problems, appliance malfunctions, damaged doors or locks, and other maintenance needs.Immediately notify management of hazards that may endanger residents, staff, or visitors.Document maintenance concerns using the facility’s designated reporting process.Follow up through the appropriate supervisor when an unresolved issue continues to affect safety or daily operations. G. Medical Appointments and TransportationAssist residents with preparing for scheduled medical, dental, behavioral-health, or other approved appointments as assigned.Communicate appointment information, transportation needs, delays, cancellations, and follow-up instructions to the appropriate supervisor.Help residents gather necessary personal items or approved paperwork for appointments.Escort or accompany residents when specifically assigned and when appropriate supervision arrangements are in place.Report appointment-related concerns and communicate relevant follow-up information through authorized channels.Protect residents’ privacy during appointment coordination and transportation. H. Resident Activities and Community ParticipationEncourage residents to participate in appropriate recreational, social, and community activities according to their interests and individual needs.Assist with preparing activity spaces, materials, and supplies.Help facilitate scheduled in-house activities when assigned.Support residents’ participation while respecting their choices, independence, and personal rights.Accompany residents on approved outings when assigned and when appropriate supervision and transportation arrangements have been established.Observe and report safety concerns or changes in resident needs during activities.Document participation or significant concerns when required by facility procedures. I. Inventory and Supply RequestsMonitor assigned supplies, including food, cleaning products, personal-care items, linens, and other routine household necessities.Report low stock, damaged items, expired products, or shortages before they interfere with resident care or facility operations.Check medication supplies and report refill needs only within assigned medication-related responsibilities.Store supplies safely and according to applicable instructions.Avoid waste and use facility supplies responsibly.Follow the established process for requesting replenishment. J. Shift Handoffs and CommunicationReview relevant information received from the outgoing shift before assuming assigned responsibilities.Communicate important resident observations, incidents, medication concerns, appointments, maintenance issues, and unfinished tasks to incoming staff.Complete required documentation and assigned tasks before the end of the shift whenever reasonably possible.Clearly identify any unresolved matters requiring immediate attention or follow-up.Notify the appropriate supervisor when a critical issue cannot be resolved before shift change.Maintain resident supervision during transitions and follow the facility’s established coverage procedures.Do not leave residents without required supervision. K. Overnight-Shift Responsibilities Employees assigned to the 11:00 PM–7:00 AM shift may be responsible for:Providing required resident supervision throughout the shift.Completing resident checks at intervals established by residents’ needs and facility procedures.Monitoring entrances, exits, common areas, and other assigned spaces for safety and security concerns.Responding promptly to resident requests, emergencies, unusual sounds, or other concerns.Completing assigned overnight cleaning, laundry, and preparation tasks without compromising resident supervision.Preparing breakfast or completing breakfast-related setup when assigned.Documenting overnight observations, incidents, resident concerns, and unfinished tasks.Communicating significant overnight events to incoming morning staff. L. Resident Safety and Emergency ResponseFollow resident-supervision, visitor, security, and emergency procedures.Respond calmly and professionally to challenging situations.Use appropriate de-escalation techniques and request assistance when needed.Recognize urgent safety concerns and follow emergency-response procedures.Contact emergency services when warranted under facility procedures and promptly notify management.Participate in required emergency drills and training.Follow applicable procedures for reporting suspected abuse, neglect, and other reportable incidents. M. Physical Assistance and Safe Work PracticesProvide physical assistance with daily activities only within the employee’s training, assigned responsibilities, and the resident’s assessed needs.Use safe body mechanics and approved equipment when applicable.Request assistance when a task cannot be performed safely.Do not attempt an unsafe lift, transfer, or movement.Promptly report changes in a resident’s mobility or need for physical assistance. N. Teamwork, Attendance, and Professional ConductReport to work on time and prepared to perform assigned duties.Follow attendance, absence-notification, scheduling, and timekeeping procedures.Follow reasonable supervisory instructions and the facility’s established chain of command.Communicate respectfully with residents, coworkers, supervisors, visitors, and outside professionals.Accept constructive feedback and participate in required training.Maintain appropriate professional boundaries.Address workplace disagreements through appropriate communication and supervisory channels.Never allow staff disagreements to interfere with resident care, supervision, or safety.Complete assigned responsibilities and communicate outstanding tasks before leaving. 3. REQUIRED TRAINING AND COMPETENCIES Before independently performing assigned duties, Care Aides must complete all applicable onboarding, clearances, health documentation, and job-specific training.
