For more information, please visit grail.com The Facilities Mechanical Technician is responsible for maintaining building systems, utilities, and operational equipment to ensure reliable, safe, and compliant 24/7 site operations. This role supports the development, coordination, and execution of mechanical, controls, and maintenance services to maximize equipment uptime and asset reliability. You will be working with key systems include HVAC, the Building Automation System (BAS), and other critical infrastructure supporting laboratory and facility operations. The technician collaborates closely with the Facilities team and cross-functional partners to ensure facility assets—utilities, equipment, and systems—operate efficiently and in compliance with applicable regulations. You will work on-site full-time at our office located in Durham, NC.Responsibilities: • Perform and coordinate planned, preventive, corrective, and on-demand maintenance for facility assets (utilities, equipment, and systems) to support continuous 24/7 operations., • Lead, perform, and optimize routine Preventive Maintenance (PM) activities., • Conduct regular facility walkthroughs to assess functionality, reliability, and compliance of facility assets., • Monitor, respond to, and troubleshoot Building Automation System (BAS) alarms and notifications., • Utilize and maintain accurate records in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)., • Collaborate with internal stakeholders (e.g., Engineering, EH&S, Quality, Validation, and Department Management) to identify potential equipment failure modes and implement mitigation strategies., • Coordinate with landlords, vendors, contractors, and equipment manufacturers to maintain property integrity, complete repairs, procure spare parts, and schedule maintenance., • Support spare parts programs, including inventory management and qualification of replacement parts., • Develop and maintain maintenance documentation, including SOPs, Work Instructions, Job Plans, Job Hazard Assessments (JHA), Risk Assessments (RA), and spare parts lists., • Ensure compliance with FDA-regulated GxP/GLP/GMP requirements, site SOPs, and quality standards., • Support installation, start-up, commissioning, and qualification of new equipment as required., • Partner with Environment, Health, and Safety (EH&S) to ensure systems are operated safely and within defined limits., • Maintain required training and ensure contractors and employees meet training and qualification requirements., • Adhere to all EH&S policies and promote a safe working environment., • Embrace and promote GRAIL’s cultural values and represent the company professionally., • Perform other duties as reasonably assigned by management., • This list reflects the primary responsibilities of the role and is not exhaustive. Responsibilities may change based on business needs.Required Qualifications:, • Minimum of High school diploma or equivalent and maintenance or operational experience., • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment., • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.Preferred Qualifications:, • 4 + years of relevant maintenance or operational experience., • Industrial or commercial electrical experience., • Experience in the life sciences industry, preferably within a regulated clinical laboratory environment (e.g., CLIA)., • HVAC CFC certification., • Working knowledge of fire prevention and fire protection systems., • Building maintenance, general contractor, or building operator certifications., • Strong customer-service mindset with a positive and professional demeanor., • Demonstrated commitment to continuous process improvement related to facility assets., • Proficiency with Microsoft and/or Google Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).Technical certification or Associate’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Applied Engineering preferred; equivalent military or related technical training will be considered.Physical Demands & Working Environment:, • Hours and days may vary depending on operational needs., • Working with dry ice may be necessary., • Standing or sitting for long periods of time may be necessary., • May be exposed to hazardous materials, blood specimens and instruments with moving parts, heating or freezing elements, and high speed centrifugation.
