Motion Designer Intern (Path to Full-Time)

MarkMedia produces documentary-style films for some of the world’s most sophisticated investors — private equity firms, venture capital funds, and the operators they back. Our work helps clients raise capital, win mandates, and build credibility. Motion is a critical layer of all of it. Every interview gets name supers, every fund deck needs animated data, every brand piece lives or dies on its graphic package. We’re hiring one paid Motion Designer Intern to train into our next full-time Motion Designer. Apply here: About MarkMedia We don’t do actors or scripted commercials. We capture real people — founders, fund managers, executives, internal teams — telling real stories on websites that close funding rounds, in pitch meetings that win business, and on stages where leaders speak. The bar is high because the stakes are high: clients use this content to move millions of dollars. You’ll work directly with our founder, who came up through investment banking, private equity, and venture capital before building MarkMedia. That access to a senior operator who actually understands our clients’ world is rare on a junior creative team — and it’s the fastest way to learn how motion design for sophisticated finance audiences actually gets made. The Craft We Hire For The motion craft at MarkMedia is investor-grade data visualization and branded graphic systems — turning fund performance, deal metrics, KPIs, and growth numbers into animated graphics that make sophisticated readers lean in. If you want to develop a niche skill set that’s in real demand and rarely taught well — animating data for an audience that already knows finance — this is on-the-job training in exactly that craft. This is a structured, mentorship-driven program built around a single outcome: by the end of the internship, both sides should know whether this is the start of your career at MarkMedia. High performers move directly into a full-time, salaried role. Internship Details Location: NYC-preferred (hybrid in-office and remote). Open to fully remote for the right candidate — proximity is a plus, not a hard requirement. Commitment: ~20 hours/week, 2–3 days/week (flexible around school or other commitments) Duration: 3–4 months Start date: Ideal start date June 1, 2026. We’re reviewing applications immediately. Compensation: $25/hour (approximately $6,000–$8,000 total over the internship) Path forward: High performers convert to a full-time, salaried Motion Designer role at MarkMedia About the Internship Program This is a paid internship designed to identify and develop our next full-time motion designer. We believe the best motion designers are built — they grow with a team, learn a process, develop their taste alongside the people they work with, and earn their reps on real client work. This program is designed to bring on someone who’s at the start of that journey and grow with them from day one. It’s mentorship-driven, with one-on-one feedback from our founder and Senior Editor on real client deliverables. If you’re looking for an internship that’s a real on-ramp to a salaried career — with mentorship, real projects, and a clear path forward — this is exactly that. About the Role As a Motion Designer Intern at MarkMedia, you’ll work side-by-side with our founder and Senior Editor to build the motion design layer of real client projects — investor reels, founder interviews, brand documentaries. From day one, you’ll be designing and animating. You’ll start with templated work (building variations on existing packages, matching established brand styles) and quickly ramp into designing motion systems from scratch. Alongside the technical craft, you’ll be coached on the taste side of the job: when motion serves the story vs. when it distracts, how to design for a corporate audience without going stale, and how to make premium feel premium. How We Work We give direct, specific feedback fast. Revision cycles are tight because our clients are demanding and sophisticated. If you thrive in that environment — high standards, quick turnarounds, and a real bar for the work — you’ll love it here. If you need a slower pace or constant hand-holding, this won’t be the right fit. Key Responsibilities • Build name supers, lower-thirds, and title cards that match each client’s brand, • Animate logos, idents, and intro/outro stings, • Design and animate data visualizations — charts, callout numbers, KPI reveals (the heart of investor and fund content), • Build branded graphic packages: typography systems, transitions, end cards, • Create kinetic typography for quote pull-outs and key interview moments, • Animate simple explainer sequences when a project calls for it, • Work inside our editors’ Premiere timelines to integrate motion cleanly with the cut, • Collaborate with producers and editors to meet deadlines What You’ll Learn • Professional motion design workflows on real client work for sophisticated investor and operator clients, • Branded graphic systems for corporate, investor, and documentary content, • Animated data visualization and kinetic typography for sophisticated finance audiences, • AI-assisted motion design methods that are reshaping the modern workflow, • How motion integrates with the edit on a small, collaborative team (a skill most junior motion designers don’t have), • Designing within sophisticated brand guidelines for high-stakes clients Ideal Candidate • Working familiarity with After Effects (school, freelance, or self-taught all count), • Strong design fundamentals — typography, layout, hierarchy, color, • Taste — you can articulate why a piece of motion feels premium vs. cheap, • Eagerness to learn quickly and take direct feedback, • Genuine interest in corporate, investor, and documentary work (refined and restrained, not maximalist social or TikTok motion), • Reliable, organized, and communicative — we move fast and ship to deadlines, • NYC-preferred but open to remote for an exceptional candidate Helpful but not required: Adobe Illustrator fluency, exposure to Cinema 4D or 3D, experience in Premiere Pro (for handoff and integration), Figma, AI-assisted motion tools (Runway, Kaiber, Adobe Firefly motion features), or motion work for brands or finance clients. Internship Outcomes • Design and animate multiple real-world client deliverables for sophisticated finance audiences, • Build a portfolio of branded, client-ready motion design, • Become fluent in our workflow, tools, and creative standards, • A clear path to a full-time, salaried Motion Designer role at MarkMedia, if it’s a fit on both sides How to Apply Apply here: The application takes about 10 minutes. You’ll share your reel or 3–5 pieces, a short reflection on a piece of motion design work whose craft you’d study, your resume, and (optional but strongly encouraged) a 60-second video introducing yourself — who you are, why you’re excited about this internship, and what you’d bring to it. We’d love to learn more about you. We’re reviewing applications immediately on a rolling basis and respond to every applicant within two weeks. Ideal start date is June 1, 2026.
