Position Summary: Under the direction of the Sr. Manager in the Sponsored Research Office (SRO), the Sponsored Research Administrator (SRA) is responsible for managing and overseeing pre-award and non-financial post-award administration of externally funded research and sponsored projects, providing timely, high-quality, and coordinated services to Sanford Burnham Prebys faculty, researchers, and administrators. The SRA plays a critical role in supporting research infrastructure, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and sponsor requirements, and facilitating the acquisition and management of sponsored funding. Duties and Responsibilities: Pre-Award: • Assist faculty and researchers with the preparation and submission of proposals, including the development and review of budgets and justifications, ensuring accuracy and compliance with sponsor and institutional policies., • Coordinate with departments and other institutional offices to obtain necessary approvals., • Review terms and conditions for acceptance of grants, contracts, and subcontract awards., • Draft and issue subaward agreements under Institute prime awards and coordinate with subrecipient institutions as needed., • Monitor project activities throughout the life of the award, including Just-in-Time (JIT), annual reports, and closeout documentation., • Coordinate non-financial award actions, including no-cost extensions, scope changes, and re-budgeting., • Maintain current knowledge of federal, state, sponsor-specific, and institutional policies., • Provide training and guidance to faculty and staff on policies and procedures., • Participate in audits and assist in addressing any related findings. Education: • One (1) or more years’ experience in sponsored research administration., • Experience in a university, research institution, or non-profit setting., • Familiarity with federal, state, and private sponsors such as NIH, DoD, CIRM, and Curebound., • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills., • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, grant management systems and financial systems., • Demonstrated knowledge of policies, procedures and regulations of various funding agencies., • Work independently as well as in a team environment., • Be responsible and have strong time management skills., • Able to analyze and resolve issues of moderate complexity., • Possess strong attention to detail in reviewing documents and policies, • Independent judgment and analytical thinking., • Effective written and verbal communication., • Commitment to professional growth and high-quality service., • Direct: None The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. When working on-site, the work environment is in a standard office setting. Frequently exposed to low to moderate noise, various odors, temperature changes, and equipment with moving parts, including but not limited to computers, phones, printers, and other standard office equipment. This role requires the use of standard home office equipment, including but not limited to computers and phones. Reliable internet connectivity and a suitable workstation are essential to fulfill job responsibilities effectively. Physical Requirements: Ability to execute those physical activities required to perform the essential functions including, but not limited to, regular sitting and being mobile; continual communicating both in person and on the telephone; regular keyboarding; regular reading of both print and digital material; and all other activities required to perform essential functions. Location: This position offers a flexible hybrid/remote work arrangement. Candidates must be willing and able to work onsite in San Diego, CA occasionally as needed. Compensation: The expected hiring range for this position is $60,848.00 - $76,060.00/year commensurate with experience.
