Electrical Equipment Technician (Trainee) Norfolk, VA 12+ Month Contract Pay: 30.24/hr, W 2 How many contractors are you needing? 1 confirmed, possibly 2 depending on the candidate pool What is the preferred candidate location (local, non-local, remote?) and is there flexibility? Is this an outage position? They will not be required to support Nuclear outages, but may support other types of equipment outages. Description: This position is responsible for supporting the installation, maintenance, testing, and commissioning of electrical equipment at field facilities. The role is designed to build foundational knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience in electrical equipment operations. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Participate in installation and commissioning of substation and generation equipment Assist in developing Human Performance work zone strategies and transformer processing procedures Help procure replacement parts and verify primary equipment operation per specifications Engage in acceptance testing of transformers, batteries, circuit breakers, CCVTs, PTs, capacitor banks, and FACTS devices Perform oil sampling, infrared thermography inspections, and vacuum bottle testing Support maintenance activities and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements Assist in troubleshooting, environmental compliance strategies, and corrective action activities Contribute during nuclear outages as needed and prepare Pre-Job Briefs Conduct environmental inspections and apply Cyber Security controls Complete all compliance paperwork and perform other assigned duties Travel to various substations as needed Required skills: Basic understanding of substation equipment Knowledge of circuit analysis, AC/DC machinery, and power systems Strong organizational and communication skills Proficient in computer applications Ability to use multimeters, read control drawings/schematics, and recognize electrical hazards Required Experience: 0-1 years of relevant experience Associate's degree or Advanced Post Secondary diploma (or military equivalent) in Electrical & Electronic Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electromechanical Technology, Electronics Technology, Instrumentation Technology, Mechatronic Technology, or a comparable field Alternatively, 5 years of military experience including at least 1 year of technical training in electrical theory, AC/DC circuits, Ohm's Law, fault isolation, and multimeter applications
