Job Description Job Title: Lab Analyst I Job Description The Lab Analyst I performs routine analytical testing in a quality control laboratory to support process control, product quality, process development, product development, and waste management. This role prepares and analyzes samples, maintains laboratory equipment and systems, and ensures accurate and timely reporting of analytical data. The position operates within a 24-hour production environment on rotating shifts and contributes to continuous improvement, safety, and regulatory compliance within the laboratory. Responsibilities • Perform routine analytical testing on samples in accordance with established protocols, test methods, and work instructions., • Prepare solutions, reagents, and standards required for testing, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation., • Clean glassware, maintain laboratory cleanliness, and assist with general housekeeping to support safe and efficient operations., • Dispose of solid and liquid waste in compliance with laboratory procedures and applicable regulations., • Train others on waste management practices, including proper handling, segregation, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste., • Maintain knowledge of hazardous waste regulations, waste determinations, and waste codes, and immediately communicate discovery of spills or leaks., • Conduct basic operational and preventative maintenance on laboratory instruments and equipment according to work instructions., • Identify, diagnose, and communicate operational issues with laboratory instruments and equipment, including typical instrument problems., • Understand and operate Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), Chromatography Data Systems (CDS), and other instrument-specific computer systems., • Search and use various databases to locate test methods, specifications, and standards required to complete analyses., • Promptly and accurately record, calculate, and report analytical results, ensuring data integrity and compliance with laboratory standards., • Review analytical data and various LIMS reports to verify accuracy and completeness before release., • Communicate and discuss testing issues, discrepancies, or irregularities with team members and supervisors., • Alert laboratory leadership to issues involving sample integrity, supply inventory, safety concerns, or analysis irregularities., • Communicate troubleshooting opportunities and suggestions to improve testing processes and laboratory workflows., • Complete data entry for metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) and support tracking of laboratory performance., • Identify process improvement ideas and communicate opportunities to improve established procedures and laboratory efficiency., • Assist in improving established procedures and participate in implementing continuous improvement projects., • Communicate testing results to internal customers as required and act with customers in mind when prioritizing work and resolving issues., • Notify leads when supplies and consumables reach critical levels to prevent interruptions in testing., • Request additional work when tasks are completed to increase overall team productivity and support laboratory throughput., • Participate in lab and site safety programs and cross-site initiatives, contributing to a strong safety culture., • Observe and follow good safety and housekeeping practices at all times within the laboratory., • Work a variety of shifts, including weekends and holidays, to support a 24-hour production operation., • Collaborate effectively with colleagues and leadership to ensure smooth handoffs between shifts and consistent laboratory performance. Essential Skills • High school diploma or equivalent., • Minimum of 1 year of laboratory experience, with exposure to analytical testing and quality control., • Good oral and written communication skills to clearly document results and communicate with team members and stakeholders., • High attention to detail and the ability to analyze outcomes against established standards and specifications., • Ability to diagnose typical instrument problems with little or no assistance and provide support to others in resolving these issues., • Ability to multitask and prioritize workload to optimize efficiency and productivity within the laboratory., • Experience working with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) in a laboratory setting., • Understanding of basic gas chromatography (GC) operation., • Familiarity with quality control laboratory practices and procedures., • Capability to work rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, in support of a 24-hour operation. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Approximately 3 years of laboratory experience is preferred for stronger technical proficiency and independence., • Background or coursework in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline., • Experience operating Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and Chromatography Data Systems (CDS)., • Experience searching and using databases for methods, specifications, and standards., • Knowledge of hazardous waste regulations, including Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) requirements, waste determinations, and waste codes., • Experience participating in continuous improvement or process optimization initiatives., • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and support cross-functional collaboration. Work Environment This role is based in a quality control laboratory within a 24-hour production site that operates on three shifts. The position requires working eight-hour shifts with rotating days within the shift approximately every three to four months. The schedule may include evening hours (for example, working until around 10:30 p.m.), as well as weekends and holidays, to ensure continuous support for production and quality operations. The environment involves routine use of analytical instruments such as HPLC and GC, as well as computers running Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), Chromatography Data Systems (CDS), and other instrument-specific software. Work includes handling chemicals, reagents, and samples, as well as managing solid and liquid waste in accordance with safety and regulatory requirements. The laboratory emphasizes strong safety and housekeeping practices, participation in lab and site safety programs, and adherence to established procedures. The dress code typically includes appropriate laboratory attire, such as lab coats, safety glasses, and other personal protective equipment as required for safe operation. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Kansas City, MO. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
