Duties: • Assessing patient eye condition., • Examining and testing eye vision and defects., • Refers for minor and major eye surgery., • Prescribe effective medication for eye problems., • Prescribe the use of eye glasses, contact lenses, eye drops and other eye drugs., • Give prior advice to the patient conditions., • Writing referral notices to doctors., • Examine eyes, using observation, instruments and pharmaceutical agents, to determine visual acuity and perception, focus and coordination and to diagnose diseases and other abnormalities such as glaucoma or color blindness., • Prescribe medications to treat eye diseases if state laws permit., • Prescribe, supply, fit and adjust eyeglasses, contact lenses and other vision aids., • Educate and counsel patients on contact lens care, visual hygiene, lighting arrangements and safety factors., • Remove foreign bodies from the eye., • Provide patients undergoing eye surgeries, such as cataract and laser vision correction, with pre- and post-operative care., • Prescribe therapeutic procedures to correct or conserve vision., • Refers for vision therapy and low vision rehabilitation., • Able to diagnose other major medical diseases., • Refer patient to other physicians., • Promotes effective working relations and work effectively as part of a team to facilitate the Clinic’s ability to meet its goals and objectives., • Attains all agreed to goals and objectives within specified time frames, as part of the Clinic’s overall mission., • Responsibly follows the Clinic Exposure Control Plans/Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogens., • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.
