SUMMARY Under general direction, is responsible for conducting educational classes for special education pre-school or Early Intervention, in accordance with the needs of the students and in accordance with the regulations and requirements of the applicable governmental and other regulatory agencies. Acts as team leader of each student’s team. The Teacher is a management position and supervisory position. Is responsible for supervising Teacher Assistants assigned to his/her team. Interviews, effectively recommends hire, discipline termination, and suspension; resolving grievances, schedules, orient; responsibly directs; completes probationary and annual evaluations; and commends Teacher Assistants. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The duties and responsibilities of the Special Education Teacher will include, but are not limited to the following: • Plans and conducts classes/activities adapted to needs of students., • Assesses and prepares IFSP/IEP’s. Implements and evaluates short and long-term goals and objectives., • Participates in activities pertaining to student transitioning., • Participates in Initial Evaluations and Intake processes., • Provides educational assessment and evaluation on students annually in all educational domains., • Prepares and adapts all individual and group lesson plans and materials, equipment and furniture arrangement and necessary modifications of environment., • Maintains records of daily attendance and progress. Writes periodic progress reports, annual reports and other data as requested., • Ensures that services are rendered to students with utmost regard for their personal dignity, privacy and confidentiality., • Participates in activities outside classroom where necessary, i.e. trips, pool, gym, libraries, lab, etc., • Serves and participates as a member at interdisciplinary team meetings, Annual Reviews, Parent Meetings, Special Review Committee meetings, In-Services, etc. as required., • Attends regular staff meetings, student reviews, district meetings and conferences., • Orients, trains, evaluates, delegates, supervises work of and effectively recommends hiring, disciplining, suspending and terminating of Teacher Assistants assigned to his/her team., • Obtains approval, requisitions and purchases class equipment and materials., • Assists with transporting students between buses and building as needed., • Implements universal precautions at all times., • Assists with toileting, feeding and positioning students as needed., • Attends supervisory and management meetings., • Assists students on arrival and departure with their outer clothing as needed., • Substitutes in another classroom as requested., • Participates in in-service training programs as requested., • Confers with director or other agency personnel regarding problems, questions and suggestions for programming or handling of students., • Initiates precautions within established framework to assure that own work is completed in a manner free from recognized hazards., • Attends parent meetings as requested. Confers with individual parents on program content and progress as it relates to their child., • Assists with curriculum development., • Provides supervision and training to student teachers., • Keeps abreast of changes in field. Responsibilities: The Clinical and Outreach Coordinator's primary responsibility is to ensure the overall health, safety and well-being of our students, families and the larger community. This also includes community outreach and community partnership building. * Develop and review all current health and safety, behavioral management, crisis intervention and clinical support protocols for the EYD to ensure accuracy and consistency. Develop and implement SEL retraining program for staff; * Work with school administrators and site program directors to identify appropriate interventions to support students in need of social and emotional interventions, working from a trauma informed framework; * Work directly with on-site Program Director and staff to provide targeted professional development training around SEL, trauma-informed care, classroom management, managing challenging behaviors and additional trainings needed based on classroom observations; * Build internal capacity for Program Director and staff to continue SEL work when social workers or mental health services are not on-site; * Identify targeted resources and referrals for students and/or family members from appropriate school staff and community-based partners; * Work with site program director and staff to develop and maintain an effective system of classroom management that encourages children to develop positive behaviors, encourage appropriate social interactions and meet development milestones; * Oversees the day to day activities and supervision of children at the site; * Assists Site Director in planning, organizing, developing, scheduling, enforcing rules, and evaluating recreation/ educational activities at the site; * Provide outreach to the community and build strategic partners for the program; * Assist with hiring, training, supervising, scheduling and evaluating part time staff; * Schedules and supervises the conditions of the facilities such as set- ups and breakdowns of facility equipment and resources; * Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment; distributes supplies and equipment, assists with ordering supplies and equipment for the site; * Conduct participants intakes and ensure that files are up to date; * Organize, plan and facilitate meetings including outreach to parents, guardians and the community; * Liaise with PTA and Parent Coordinator to hold workshops for parents and families; * Input monthly deliverables and other DYCD mandates including attendances and activities, * Coordinate monthly community health fairs or other community events; * Create and maintain updated resources and bulletin boards with health and wellness supports; * Run health and wellness workshops for students * Survey students, parents, school staff, community on need assessments and develop programming in response to needs; * Coordinate with other BCS programs to bring in additional programming and resources, ex. CHAMPS, adult education, preventive; * Assist in carrying out other aspects of the program including planning trips, celebrations, and leadership activities; * Provide referrals and other resources as needed; * Make safety and risk assessments regarding student’s health, safety, and/or well-being and develops safety and intervention plans accordingly; * Assist in student mediations and restorative practices; * Participate in all IEP and family team conferences as needed; * Assist in remediation by providing behavioral plans or counseling to students * Facilitate anger management groups; * Provide advocacy and coaching to students to address any barriers to accessing any services needed by student; * Actively participates in individual and group supervision, staff trainings, and team meetings. This includes participating in consultations and receiving and giving direct feedback from/to peers and supervisory staff on a regular basis; * Collaborate with DOE staff and other school service providers to address barriers or challenges related to assessment, service coordination or planning, and/or crisis intervention; * Provide immediate crisis intervention support as needed, including mediation support; * Provide family outreach and conduct parent/guardian meetings as appropriate; * Supervise MSW interns (with SIFI certification); * Provide clinical support and coaching (in coordination with classroom teachers and assistant teachers) for students to address any social or behavioral issues impacting their performance in the classroom. Facilitate individual and small group coaching/mentoring sessions with staff weekly, on a regular, and consistent basis; * Other duties as may be required. Start date: Immediate Hours: Monday through Friday 8:30AM to 2:30 PM Academic West’s Teacher assistants’ primary function is to support the Head teacher in the Lower school in accomplishing classroom/lesson objectives. They support instructional activities by assisting and reinforcing learning concepts while providing behavioral and classroom management to promote a thriving classroom environment. These duties also include helping Lead Teachers with basic administrative tasks such as recording behavioral progress, progress reports, or recording grades. Additionally, they may consult with teachers on student performance, and may oversee students outside of the classroom during school events and/or related activities and respond to students who are exhibiting challenging behaviors. Roles and Responsibilities: • Mark students after every period for the following: Taking attendance (absent, present, on-time).
