Job Description Aquacise / Water Fitness Instructor Organization: Radburn Association Location: Radburn B Pool, Fair Lawn, NJ Dates: June 29th to Sept 4th 2026 Hours: M-W-F 10:30-11:30 AM, T-Th 6:00-7:00 PM Reports To: Pool Manager Position Summary The Aquacise Instructor is responsible for planning and leading safe, engaging, and effective water fitness classes for adult participants of varying ages and fitness levels. This role promotes physical wellness, injury prevention, and community engagement through low-impact aquatic exercise programs conducted in accordance with industry standards and Radburn Association policies. Essential Duties & Responsibilities * Plan and lead structured aquacise / water fitness classes that are safe, inclusive, and appropriate for mixed fitness levels * Adapt exercises for participants with varying abilities, joint limitations, or health considerations * Demonstrate proper aquatic exercise techniques, posture, and movement patterns * Monitor participants for signs of fatigue, distress, or injury and respond appropriately * Maintain a positive, encouraging, and professional class environment * Ensure compliance with all Radburn pool rules, safety policies, and emergency procedures * Coordinate with lifeguards to ensure class safety and clear communication during sessions * Set up and return aquatic fitness equipment (e.g., water dumbbells, noodles, resistance tools) * Take attendance and communicate class feedback or issues to pool management * Serve as a positive representative of the Radburn Association and foster a welcoming community atmosphere Qualifications * Minimum age: 18 years * Current Aquatic Fitness / Aquacise Instructor Certification or Group Fitness Certification with aquatic specialization (e.g., AFAA, ACE, YMCA, WaterART, or equivalent) * Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification preferred but not required (American Red Cross or equivalent) * Ability to teach confidently in chest-deep water for extended periods * Strong communication and interpersonal skills * Reliable, punctual, and professional demeanor Preferred Qualifications * Prior experience teaching aquacise or water fitness classes * Experience working with older adults or individuals with joint or mobility limitations * Knowledge of basic anatomy, exercise modification, and injury prevention Physical Requirements * Ability to remain active in the water for 45–60 minutes per class * Ability to lift and move light aquatic equipment * Ability to clearly demonstrate movements and provide verbal instruction in a pool environment Compensation * Competitive hourly rate, commensurate with experience and certifications Equal Opportunity Statement The Radburn Association is an equal opportunity employer and values diversity in its staff and community programming.
