Job DescriptionJob Title: Project EngineerJob Description The Project Engineer supports solid waste and environmental projects, including landfills, landfill gas systems, composting facilities, and related infrastructure. This role combines engineering design, technical documentation, and field work, contributing to complex civil and environmental solutions within a collaborative, growth-oriented team. Responsibilities • Apply engineering principles to the design and execution of solid waste and environmental projects (landfills, gas systems, composting facilities, and infrastructure)., • Develop site layouts, grading plans, and design details using AutoCAD Civil 3D., • Perform engineering calculations related to civil design, stormwater, wastewater, soil mechanics, landfill systems, and gas pipelines., • Prepare drawings, specifications, technical reports, memoranda, and permit applications for regulatory approvals., • Exercise sound engineering judgment in selecting methods and approaches for assigned work., • Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders to meet project scope, schedule, and budget requirements., • Participate in client meetings, industry events, and business development activities, including proposal support., • Conduct field work such as site inspections, data collection, and construction observation in varying conditions., • Collaborate with engineers to review and refine deliverables., • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.Essential Qualifications, • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering (or related field), • Minimum 4 years of relevant experience (civil engineering and/or solid waste design), • EIT certification, • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, • Experience with:, • Site design and land development, • Landfill and solid waste infrastructure, • Gas systems or pipelines, • Stormwater and wastewater systems, • Facility layout and design, • Soil mechanics, • Strong technical writing and documentation skills, • Valid driver’s license and ability to perform field work, • Ability to work independently within assigned project scopePreferred Qualifications, • P.E. license, • Experience with regulatory permitting and technical reporting, • Client and stakeholder coordination experience, • Business development support (proposals, meetings, industry events), • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, • Detail-oriented with a desire for professional growth, • Interest in long-term employee ownership (ESOP environment)Work Environment This role is primarily on site five days a week during the contract period, with the potential to transition to a hybrid schedule after conversion. The position involves a mix of office and field work. Office work includes design and drafting using AutoCAD Civil 3D, performing calculations, preparing reports, and developing permit applications in a professional engineering environment. Field work may require travel to project sites and work in varied terrain and weather conditions to conduct inspections, collect data, and observe construction activities. The organization offers an employee ownership structure with eligibility for an ESOP-style program, including merit-based contributions and annual distributions that grow over time, similar to a retirement or pension plan. Employees may receive merit bonuses twice a year based on performance. Paid time off is accrued, with 16 days available during the first five years of employment. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $48.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
