Job Summary: The Senior Director, Leadership Giving is a strategic organizational leader responsible for driving an ambitious, relationship-centered fundraising program that generates more than $7M annually in individual and major gifts to meet the needs of youth in foster care across Washington state. This leadership position provides strategic direction for all aspects of individual contributed revenue, serves as a thought partner to the CDO and mentor for staff in other areas of contributed revenue, leads the design and execution of comprehensive multiyear fundraising strategies, and manages a portfolio of major donors to deepen engagement and significantly grow philanthropic investment in Treehouse’s mission. The Senior Director, Leadership Giving serves as a mission-driven, equity-centered leader who contributes regularly to advance the organization’s commitment to anti-racism, social justice, and belonging. The position works directly with Treehouse staff, donors, and community members to help ensure the needs of the youth we serve are met, aligning fundraising goals with programmatic and operational goals through a culturally responsive and inclusive approach with acknowledgement of the trauma experienced by youth in care. The role helps dismantle systemic inequities, promote psychological safety, engage in equitable practices across systems, and contribute to an organizational culture rooted in dignity, accountability, and care in service of the youth that Treehouse supports. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer (CDO), this position oversees a high-performing team and serves as a key member of the Senior Director leadership cohort, advising the Executive Team and contributing to organizational strategy, annual planning, and cross-departmental alignment. A collaborative, forward-thinking leader, the Senior Director, Leadership Giving fosters effective partnerships across Development, Marketing & Communications, Programs, and organizational leadership to strengthen a culture of philanthropy, support organizational priorities, and ensure excellence in donor stewardship, data-informed decision-making, and team performance. This role provides an opportunity for an experienced fundraiser and people leader to contribute meaningfully to our dynamic and fast-growing organization at a transformative time in our history. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Organizational Leadership:Serve as a thought partner to, and primary delegate of, the Chief Development Officer, stepping in to represent the organization or the department when the CDO is not present. Contribute as a member of Treehouse’s leadership team to organizational goals, strategic planning, budgeting, and effective organizational culture, management, and communication.Partner with the Chief Development Officer, Board leadership, and Fund Development committee chairs to strengthen the organization’s culture of philanthropy and Board, Emeritus Board, and Ambassador Board engagement in fundraising.Develop and maintain cross-organizational partnerships to ensure alignment of development, programs, policy and systems change, and marketing and communications strategies to grow philanthropic investment in the organization.Actively participate in Senior Director-level initiatives and conversations and serve as a thought partner to the Executive Team.Serve as key internal and external leader and spokesperson for the organization, deeply versed in Treehouse’s mission, values, goals, and progress, to represent Treehouse publicly. Fundraising & Department Leadership:In partnership with the CEO, CDO, and Board, develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive, multi-year strategy to meet the organization’s contributed revenue goals in alignment with Treehouse’s values.In collaboration with the CDO, lead the Development team in creating a comprehensive, measurable annual development plan to achieve fundraising objectives.In partnership with the CDO, define quantitative and qualitative fundraising metrics, set team and individual goals, identify key performance indicators, and monitor quarterly and annual progress.Develop, implement, and evaluate a collaborative and comprehensive strategy to grow contributed revenue from individual donors, including leadership giving, planned giving, mid-level giving, and annual fund giving.Oversee the growth of major gifts revenue, including instituting best practices in prospect research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of five-, six-, and seven-figure individual donors.Partner with the CDO, Development team, and committee chairs to optimize and support Board, Emeritus Board, and Ambassador Board engagement in the full fundraising cycle.Work directly with members of the Board and Emeritus Board to maximize their engagement in fundraising and serve as their relationship manager.Personally cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of individual major donors at the $10,000 level and above, modeling best practices in donor relations for the rest of the Development team.Regularly strategize with members of the Development team on cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies for specific donors and funders, incorporating Treehouse’s inclusive and abundance-focused priorities.Lead the Development team in developing, implementing, and evaluating an annual calendar of donor cultivation and stewardship activities and events to build and sustain meaningful relationships with diverse communities throughout our state.Partner with the CDO to create a team culture of continuous improvement and learning and foster a values-aligned approach to Treehouse’s fundraising practices, creating the conditions necessary to grow philanthropic revenue exponentially in future years. Empower individual staff to fully engage in and embody Treehouse’s values in all aspects of their work on behalf of the organization.Track fundraising goals and Development team metrics; regularly analyze and present progress toward key performance metrics, fundraising actuals, outcomes, and plans to the Fund Development Committee.In partnership with the CDO, develop and monitor annual Development department revenue and expense budgets. Team Management:Hire, supervise, coach, support, and evaluate the performance of assigned staff, interns, and/or volunteers to ensure individual and team performance; foster a positive, values-driven, highly collaborative, communicative, and results-oriented team.Serve as a mentor and advisor to the full Development team, collaborating with the CDO to lead departmental meetings and ensure staff receive meaningful, regular feedback, coaching, and professional development opportunities.Participate in ensuring fundraising operational excellence; identify and contribute to the build-out and implementation of systems, procedures, and processes necessary for efficiency, efficacy, and optimization. Serve as a department thought leader and set an example in leveraging data to inform contributed revenue strategy, and coach development staff as they build this skill.Ensure effective collaboration and timely coordination between the Development and Marketing and Communications teams to achieve strategy and implementation alignment and avoid duplication of efforts.Facilitate cross-team project collaboration. Maintain confidentiality of information and sign a confidentiality agreement,Perform other duties as assigned.Requirements: Qualifications: A minimum of 7 years of direct experience in philanthropic fundraising; specific and proven success with individual major giving required.A minimum of 4 years of leading and managing a team in achieving ambitious fundraising goals.Must satisfy Washington State and national criminal and motor vehicle record background check requirements. Current driver's license, and minimum WA State driver insurance coverage required, if applicable. Driving record must be approved by the Treehouse insurance provider. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Required:Ability to achieve ambitious fundraising goals in collaboration with executive leadership, the Board, high-level volunteers, and staff.Experience leading development work across a variety of disciplines, with comprehensive knowledge of all areas of nonprofit development, including major gifts, annual giving, special events, corporate and foundation giving.Excellent strategic thinking skills and the ability to understand the intersection of multiple functions.Demonstrated effectiveness as a team builder, coach, and mentor with an ability to energize and engage a large team of staff with varying levels of experience.Demonstrated experience working with boards and high-net worth donors, and experience closing gifts at the high 5- and 6-figure plus levels.Demonstrated commitment to the highest levels of customer service and donor stewardship.Deep commitment to racial equity and social justice and the ability to effectively engage in candid conversations about diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice – including incorporating Decolonization and Pro-Blackness principles. Exceptional written and oral communication skills; confident, polished, and effective public speaker in front of large audiences Excellent relationship management; excellent interpersonal skills with both internal and external partners at all levels.Strong work ethic with proven track record of working independently, carrying out creative problem solving, taking initiative, and exercising the ability to plan, test ideas, learn, and adapt. Ability to be diplomatic and maintain a high level of discretion when working with confidential information.Ability and aptitude with Salesforce or similar CRM databases.Demonstrated ability to build working relationships with individuals of various ages, cultures, socioeconomic backgrounds, and abilities, applying principles of transformation and restoration for healing and empowerment purposes. Ability and aptitude with Microsoft O365 and other technology necessary for successful day-to-day functioning in a business environment. Desired:Demonstrated experience in leading a team raising $6+ million annually.Fluency in the experiences and needs of youth in foster care.Experience with Salesforce and iWAVE preferred. BA Degree in Business Administration, Nonprofit Leadership, Marketing and Communications, or other related field. Working Conditions: Full-time position. Expected hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm general schedule, with occasional evening and weekend responsibilities.Must reside within Washington State to comply with workplace reporting requirements. Travel: Occasional regional travel during working hours. Infrequent overnight travel required.
