Employees should be prepared to work a little earlier or later as needed. Equipment Operator Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Equipment Operator to operate one or more pieces of material-handling equipment, including but not limited to forklifts, front-end loaders, Bobcats, balers, and densifiers. This position is responsible for safely moving, sorting, grading, processing, and preparing paper and other loose materials for handling, shipment, or further processing. Forklift certification is preferred/required, depending on site requirements. OSHA certification is a plus. Relevant equipment-operating experience is required. Key Requirements • Minimum 6 months of relevant experience operating material-handling or industrial equipment., • Forklift certification preferred/required., • OSHA certification is a plus., • Must have hands-on experience operating a forklift, loader, Bobcat, baler, densifier, or similar equipment., • Ability to work safely in a fast-paced industrial environment., • Must follow all company safety policies and procedures., • Must wear required work attire and PPE. Required Work Attire • Long-sleeve shirt, • Long pants, • No hanging or loose jewelry, • No hoodies Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Operate one or more pieces of equipment, including forklifts, front-end loaders, Bobcats, balers, densifiers, and other material-handling equipment., • Sort and grade incoming materials according to established specifications., • Operate the densifier and other processing equipment safely and efficiently., • Start, monitor, and operate the baler according to established procedures., • Read and respond promptly to baler monitor functions, machine prompts, and alarms., • Ensure materials are properly fed onto conveyors and coordinate the flow of materials., • Monitor and document equipment downtime., • Inspect material quality before it is baled or shipped., • Coordinate with the MRF Manager regarding materials that need to be baled, processed, or shipped., • Record materials received or distributed and properly mark materials with identifying information., • Maintain accurate inventory records., • Compile worksheets, tickets, and other documentation based on customer specifications., • Operate equipment to move materials to designated locations., • Unload, tag, organize, and stack materials in designated rows., • Load and unload materials from trailers and railcars., • Move finished bales and other materials from the baler to designated areas., • Dump containers, bins, and Gaylords of materials., • Read and follow loading/unloading sheets and bills of lading., • Complete required load and unload tally sheets., • Inspect and grade wastepaper and other materials received at the facility., • Perform daily equipment inspections and routine maintenance, including lubricating, fueling, and cleaning equipment., • Maintain an adequate supply of baling wire and other necessary operating supplies., • Complete vehicle condition reports as required by company guidelines., • Maintain clean and orderly work areas., • Maintain safe working conditions around equipment and work areas., • Immediately report unsafe conditions, equipment issues, or operational concerns., • Comply with all company, OSHA, and site-specific safety policies and procedures., • Perform other duties as assigned by management. Supervisory Responsibilities No supervisory responsibilities are required for this position. Qualifications Education & Experience • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required., • Minimum 6 months of relevant work experience., • Previous experience operating industrial equipment, forklifts, loaders, balers, Bobcats, or similar machinery is strongly preferred. Certifications & Licenses • Forklift certification preferred/required., • OSHA certification is a plus., • Additional equipment certifications may be required based on site or company requirements. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities The successful candidate should be able to: • Read and understand safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals., • Complete routine reports, worksheets, tally sheets, and other required documentation., • Communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, customers, and other personnel., • Perform basic mathematical calculations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals., • Calculate rates, ratios, and percentages and interpret basic graphs., • Follow written, verbal, and diagram-based instructions., • Apply sound judgment and common sense when dealing with operational issues., • Identify and respond appropriately to equipment alarms, machine prompts, and safety concerns., • Multitask and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced work environment., • Work independently while also communicating effectively with the MRF Manager and other team members., • Maintain a strong focus on safety, quality, productivity, and accuracy. Physical Requirements While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee may be required to: • Sit for extended periods while operating equipment., • Stand and walk as needed., • Use hands and fingers to operate controls and handle materials., • Reach with hands and arms., • Bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl., • Talk and hear effectively in a loud industrial environment., • Frequently lift and/or move materials weighing up to 50 punds., • Occasionally lift and/or move materials weighing up to50 pounds. Specific vision requirements may include: • Close vision, • Distance vision, • Color vision, • Peripheral vision, • Depth perception, • Ability to adjust focus Physical demands may vary by facility and job site. Work Environment This position is performed in an industrial/material-processing environment. Employees may regularly be exposed to: • Moving mechanical equipment and machinery, • Fumes, dust, and airborne particles, • Outdoor weather conditions, • Vibration, • Loud noise levels Employees are expected to remain alert and follow all required safety procedures while working around heavy equipment and moving machinery.
