Job DescriptionJob Title: Tool and Die TechnicianJob Description This role focuses on inspecting, maintaining, and repairing production dies across multiple product lines within a manufacturing plant. The technician operates an overhead crane to move dies into the shop, performs mechanical and electrical inspections, and completes routine preventive maintenance and repairs to ensure dies operate safely and efficiently. The position offers opportunities to grow into die maintenance, broader maintenance roles, and leadership. Responsibilities • Inspect and maintain dies throughout the plant to ensure reliable performance across multiple product lines., • Operate an overhead crane safely to move dies to and from the shop for inspection, maintenance, and repair., • Conduct detailed inspections of mechanical and electrical components on each die to identify wear, damage, or performance issues., • Perform routine preventive maintenance (PMs) on dies, including cleaning, lubrication, adjustments, and component checks., • Diagnose and repair cracked, damaged, or non-working dies, including dies that are not cutting correctly or producing out-of-spec parts., • Use TIG welding on stainless steel to perform minor repairs and rebuild worn or damaged areas on dies and related components., • Grind and finish die surfaces using grinders and surface grinding equipment to restore proper dimensions and surface quality., • Perform die maintenance tasks such as disassembly, inspection, component replacement, reassembly, and functional testing., • Fabricate guards, racks, and related components as needed to support safe and efficient die handling and operation., • Apply basic electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills to resolve issues affecting die performance., • Follow established safety procedures when operating overhead cranes, welding equipment, grinders, and other shop tools., • Maintain accurate documentation of inspections, maintenance activities, and repairs performed on each die., • Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to prioritize die repairs and minimize production downtime., • Develop and maintain knowledge of which dies belong to each product line, supporting efficient scheduling and changeovers., • Participate in ongoing training to build expertise in die maintenance and prepare for advancement into maintenance and leadership roles.Essential Skills, • Hands-on experience with tooling or die work in a manufacturing or fabrication environment., • Practical experience with die maintenance or preventive maintenance (PMs) on dies or similar tooling., • Ability to safely operate an overhead crane for moving dies and heavy components., • TIG welding experience on stainless steel, including the ability to perform minor repairs and build-ups., • Proficiency with grinding and surface grinding to restore and finish die surfaces., • Basic mechanical aptitude for inspecting, disassembling, repairing, and reassembling dies and related components., • Basic electrical understanding to inspect and troubleshoot electrical components associated with dies., • Ability to read and follow work instructions, maintenance procedures, and safety guidelines., • Attention to detail and accuracy when inspecting dies and documenting maintenance activities.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience fabricating guards, racks, or similar structures using welding and fabrication tools., • Prior exposure to die repair, die maintenance, or tool and die environments., • Experience working with stainless steel components in a fabrication or maintenance setting., • Familiarity with grinders, surface grinders, and other metalworking equipment used in die repair., • Willingness to learn advanced die maintenance techniques through on-the-job training., • Interest in progressing into broader maintenance roles and future leadership opportunities.Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in a plant environment that supports multiple product lines and a wide variety of dies. The role follows a rotating schedule, Monday through Friday with occasional Saturdays, alternating every two weeks between a 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. shift (with flexibility up to 6:00 p.m.) and a 6:00 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. shift (with flexibility up to 6:00 a.m.). The work involves regular use of overhead cranes, welding equipment, grinders, surface grinders, and other metalworking and maintenance tools. Employees work closely with production and maintenance teams in a hands-on, shop-floor setting where safety procedures and proper use of personal protective equipment are emphasized. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of SAN ANTONIO, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $26.00/hr.
