Job DescriptionJob Title: Commissioning Engineer / Commissioning Technician Job Description This role focuses on commissioning and supporting basebuild utility and control systems for large, advanced technology facilities and data center environments. You will work both independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams to support capital projects, integrate commissioning with construction and design schedules, and implement high‑quality automation and control solutions. By coordinating with operations technicians, contractors, and engineering teams, you will help clients improve performance, resolve complex technical issues, and achieve critical project goals. Responsibilities • Coordinate work schedules and manpower forecasts for owner’s operations technicians to support commissioning activities., • Manage and track commissioning constraints and deficiencies that impact the schedule or quality of basebuild utility systems after construction installation., • Integrate construction and design schedules with commissioning activities to ensure alignment of project milestones and system readiness., • Provide regular reports and updates on schedule status, quality metrics, and commissioning progress to project stakeholders., • Conduct system and facility engineering walk‑through assessments to evaluate installation quality, readiness, and compliance with design intent., • Troubleshoot complex control and utility system issues and perform root cause failure analysis on assigned projects., • Train suppliers and contractors in the use of the owner’s commissioning software systems to ensure accurate data entry and tracking., • Provide, manage, and control access for suppliers within the owner’s commissioning software systems., • Interface effectively with engineering design team members, construction partners, and client representatives to resolve issues and coordinate work., • Program, configure, and support PLC‑based control systems, including Rockwell Automation platforms such as PLC5 and ControlLogix., • Support and participate in I/O checkouts, system start‑ups, and functional testing of control, HVAC, electrical, and building automation systems., • Review and interpret P&IDs, data sheets, technical drawings, and schematics to verify correct installation and commissioning of instrumentation and control devices., • Contribute to the integration and commissioning of Building Management Systems (BMS) and SCADA systems in large industrial or data center environments., • Prepare and deliver clear written technical reports and conduct group presentations to communicate findings, issues, and recommendations., • Collaborate closely with controls, automation, and electrical engineering teams to deliver consistent, accurate, and high‑quality solutions to clients.Essential Skills, • Minimum of 2 years of experience in commissioning or construction for instrumentation and controls (I&C) or electrical basebuild systems in the advanced technology sector., • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with control systems in a data center or similar environment., • Hands‑on experience with Rockwell Automation platforms, including PLC5 and ControlLogix hardware and software., • Proficiency in control systems programming and configuration, including PLC programming and automation controls., • Experience working on multi‑discipline large capital projects involving owners, general contractors, contractors, and system integrators., • Strong understanding of Design/Build project delivery, encompassing both engineering and construction aspects., • Good understanding of complex process systems architecture and design, including instrumentation, device selection, networking, PLC and I/O architectures, P&IDs, data sheets, and SCADA systems., • Working knowledge of environments common in large industrial applications, such as dry and wet mechanical systems, AWN, gas and chemical distribution, HVAC, and clean room environmental control., • Strong understanding of HVAC, electrical systems, and building automation systems., • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and engineering documentation., • Experience conducting I/O checkouts and supporting system start‑up and commissioning activities., • Proficiency with written and verbal technical communication, including generating detailed reports and conducting group presentations., • Excellent problem‑solving and analytical skills with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues., • Strong communication and teamwork abilities, with the capacity to collaborate effectively across disciplines., • High attention to detail and a methodical, quality‑focused approach to work., • Associate's degree or technical certification in electrical, mechanical, control systems engineering, or a related field, or equivalent direct experience in lieu of a degree.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, chemical engineering, or a similar technical field is preferred., • Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) and SCADA platforms in industrial or data center environments., • Experience with HMI systems and interface configuration for control and automation solutions., • Background in controls engineering, including automation, PLCs, and electrical systems., • Experience with Allen‑Bradley PLCs and related automation hardware and software., • Hands‑on experience with troubleshooting electrical and control system issues in construction or operational settings., • Familiarity with building automation systems and integration of HVAC and electrical controls., • Exposure to data center environments and critical infrastructure controls., • Demonstrated ability to work effectively on project teams that include controls, data center, automation, PLC, and electrical disciplines., • Interest in ongoing professional development and learning from industry experts in control system integration and commissioning.Work Environment This is an onsite role based in Abilene, working primarily at client facilities in advanced technology and data center environments. You will typically work around 50 hours per week, supporting active construction and commissioning activities. The work involves regular interaction with field installation crews, operations technicians, engineering teams, and system integrators, as well as time spent on facility walk‑throughs, equipment rooms, and control spaces. The environment includes exposure to industrial systems such as HVAC, mechanical equipment, gas and chemical distribution, electrical infrastructure, and clean room or controlled environments. You will use modern commissioning software systems, Rockwell Automation platforms, PLCs, BMS and SCADA systems, and standard engineering tools to perform your work. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Abilene, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $58.00/hr.
