US Junior Interior Designer (Federal Government – VA)U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs | Engineering Service Planning Section The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Interior Designer to support the Major Projects Activation and Interior Design Team. This role plays a key part in supporting large-scale healthcare and federal facility design, activation, and space planning initiatives that directly impact Veterans care environments. 🏗️ Position Purpose The Junior Interior Designer works under the guidance of the VA Interior Designer and contracted design team to independently plan and execute assigned tasks in support of major construction and activation projects. Responsibilities include space planning, FF&E coordination, procurement package development, and project activation support from design through installation. This role is critical in ensuring that project objectives, timelines, and deliverables are met across complex, multi-stakeholder federal healthcare environments. 🎯 Key ResponsibilitiesInterior Design & Project Support • Develop interior design solutions for a wide range of healthcare and administrative spaces including:, • Patient exam and treatment rooms, • Offices, conference rooms, waiting areas, lobbies, • Break rooms, cafés, storage, and support spaces, • Assist with major project activations, space planning, and facility moves, • Prepare AutoCAD drawings including FF&E plans, layouts, and visual presentations, • Interpret architectural drawings and ensure alignment with VA standards (TIL, ABAAS, ICC, NFPA, OSHA)FF&E & Procurement, • Develop procurement packages including:, • Statements of Work (SOW), • Technical specifications, • Independent Government Cost Estimates (IGCE), • Drawings, bid sheets, schedules, and budgets, • Coordinate furniture, fixtures, and equipment selection, ordering, delivery, and installation, • Track vendor progress and manage activation schedules and financial logs, • Support installation oversight and ensure project completion through punch list resolutionActivation & Facility Coordination, • Support full activation planning for new or renovated facilities, • Coordinate logistics including furniture installation, signage, artwork, equipment, and supplies, • Assist with move planning, staff transitions, and operational readiness, • Develop and maintain project schedules, meeting documentation, and reporting toolsCommunication & Stakeholder Coordination, • Collaborate with Contracting, Logistics, EMS, OI&T, Material Management, vendors, and end users, • Participate in multidisciplinary planning and coordination meetings, • Document meeting outcomes, design decisions, and action items, • Support workflow planning including patient, staff, and visitor flow considerations, • Assist in identifying operational gaps, adjacencies, and transition needs💡 Qualifications & Experience, • Knowledge of patient-centered care environments preferred, • Ability to interpret architectural drawings, blueprints, and specifications, • Strong skills in scaled drawing and site measurement, • Proficiency in:, • AutoCAD (required), • Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) (required), • Microsoft Project and Revit (preferred), • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with contractors, vendors, and government stakeholders, • Familiarity with healthcare design standards and federal facility requirements⭐ Preferred Certifications, • NCIDQ (National Council for Interior Design Qualification), • PMP (Project Management Professional), • EDAC (Evidence-Based Design Accreditation and Certification), • LEED Accreditation🏥 Why Join the VA?, • Work on high-impact federal healthcare projects supporting Veterans, • Structured career progression within federal design and engineering services, • Competitive federal salary (GS pay scale with locality adjustments), • Excellent benefits including retirement (FERS), TSP match, and job stability, • Opportunity to contribute to mission-driven healthcare environments📍 Location, • Los Angeles, CA (Federal facility-based role)
