Job Description MAS LAW is looking for a litigation associate with at least two years of hands-on civil litigation experience who wants to do real, substantive legal work. The Role You will be supporting one of our senior litigators’ civil litigation docket, along with civil matters we pick up outside our core personal injury practice, and helping bring more structure to how those matters are managed day to day. There is an opportunity to build a personal injury caseload of your own over time, but that is not the core of this position at the outset. We need someone who can take a difficult legal issue, dig into the facts and the law, figure it out, and turn that work into a strong motion, brief, or strategy. This position is heavy on research and writing, along with the discovery, depositions, hearings, and day-to-day work that actually moves a case forward. We want a lawyer willing to do the heavy lifting who takes pride in producing good work. What You Will Be Doing You will work directly with experienced litigators on active civil litigation matters in state and federal court, while also contributing to how those matters are managed and tracked day to day: • Researching and analyzing complex legal issues;, • Drafting pleadings, briefs, memoranda, and dispositive and pretrial motions;, • Preparing and responding to written discovery, and handling discovery disputes;, • Reviewing and analyzing documents, records, testimony, and other evidence;, • Preparing deposition outlines and hearing materials, and assisting at both;, • Contributing to case management, workflow, and process improvements across the litigation docket; and, • Developing case strategy and preparing cases for trial. This is a hands-on position. We want an attorney comfortable getting into the details and taking an assignment from beginning to end, not someone looking to manage a docket and pass the substantive work down. What We Are Looking For • A Texas law license in good standing;, • At least 2 years of hands-on civil litigation experience (required);, • Strong legal research and analytical skills;, • Strong legal writing, with experience drafting motions, briefs, pleadings, and discovery;, • The judgment to work through an assignment independently and to know when to ask the right questions;, • Serious attention to detail; and, • The ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines without letting the quality of the work suffer. We would rather hire a smart, hardworking lawyer who can research, analyze, and write exceptionally well than someone with a longer résumé who cannot. Courtroom skills can be developed. The ability and willingness to sit down, understand a complicated problem, and produce excellent legal work is much harder to teach. About MAS LAW MAS LAW (Modjarrad & Associates, P.C.) has represented clients in Texas for more than 25 years, with headquarters in Richardson, additional offices in Atlanta and Chicago, and a team of nearly 80 professionals and growing. We are primarily a personal injury plaintiff’s firm, though our litigation docket also includes civil matters outside that core practice, and our associates work directly with experienced trial lawyers on significant cases across both. As you demonstrate that you can handle the work, you will be given more responsibility and greater involvement in the cases. Compensation and Benefits Compensation is commensurate with experience. MAS LAW offers a competitive benefits package, including health benefits, paid time off, retirement benefits, and support for continuing legal education and professional development. How to Apply Please submit : 1. Your résumé;, 2. A short cover letter; and, 3. A writing sample that is entirely your own work: a motion, brief, or memorandum you personally researched, drafted, and revised. Templates, form pleadings, jointly drafted documents without a clear note of your specific contribution, and law school coursework do not qualify. Redact as necessary, and briefly note what the document was for and your role in producing it. The writing sample matters to us because it’s the best evidence we have of how you actually think and write. Applications without a genuine, verifiable writing sample will not be reviewed. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. MAS LAW is an equal opportunity employer. \nCompany Description Award-winning personal injury law firm serving the community for over 20 years.
